There's not much worth stuffing into a jam jar in my garden... so I thought I'd cheat and post this instead, photographed in the National Gallery.   :)

It's by Jan Davidsz. de Heem, painted around 1670.  He called it "Flowers in a glass bottle on a marble plinth".  I love the snail and insects he included, too...

Crikey, what is going on on this forum at the moment?
@Liriodendron.....I  take it that your comment re 'cheating' is aimed at my contribution.  I apologise if offence has occurred by not using a jam jar, I didn't have any empty ones.  I won't bother posting here again, in case others feel I'm cheating.

@Mary370 - NO NO NO!  So sorry if you misunderstood... no, I was the one cheating, by posting a photo of a painting of flowers, instead of real ones from my garden.

"Jam jar flowers" was just a way of saying "don't bother with a beautiful flower arrangement, a jam jar will do", I think.  If you have tall-stemmed flowers they will fall over in a jam jar, after all.  Yours are beautiful.  I love the lime green nicotiana, and that dark cosmos is a colour others are looking for - do you know its name, by any chance?

Please carry on posting here!   :)

  • Love that painting @Liriodendron I would have missed the little beasties if you hadn’t mentioned them!
I think the cosmos is double click cranberries, most definitely the most successful of my cosmos this year, I think I tried about 8 different types of seed !!!

Thanks very much, @Newgardeninggirl.  I'm going to tag this for @Fire because she's looking for a really dark Cosmos.   :)
