    Morning all!

Back from the dentist (scale & polish only, hooray!) in the rain...

I've been trying to think if there's anyone who seems to have disappeared from the site since the switchover.  Haven't seen DD but she's almost certainly just busy.  @GWRS, keep bashing away at it - every day I find something new at the moment, but I'm sure we'll get there in the end.   :)

It sounds as if you're having a fab time, Chicky.  And lots of lovely sun & warmth...   B)  ...please pack some in your suitcase to spread around when you get home...

Punkdoc, look after yourself - but it's excellent that you've found a way to help.

BL, hope tomorrow's travelling goes well.  Do you ever wish you just lived in one place?

I'm off to U3A novel appreciation (Khaled Hosseini, "A Thousand Splendid Suns" - should be required reading for anyone with an interest in the treatment of women, IMO) in a few minutes.  I think it'll still be raining...   :/

This might be a stupid question, but what does U3A mean?

U3A =  University of the Third Age

OH's mum joined when she was widowed in her early 60s ... she's made so many friends, done so many interesting things and made such good friends via U3A

Sorry @Pauline 7 - not stupid at all.  Not all towns have a U3A, which is the acronym of "University of the Third Age".  Sounds horribly pretentious but really isn't!  It's for anyone no longer in employment, and in addition to large monthly meetings with a speaker on a huge variety of topics (which recently here have included "music for the deaf", Amnesty International, local history and the Ancient Greeks! - not in the same talk, I hasten to add!), there are over 40 different special interest groups meeting weekly, fortnightly or monthly.  In no way does it resemble university!  There's a coffee club, a lunch club, a "Let's Go" group, as well as various language study or conversation groups, Bridge & Mah Jong groups, arts & crafts, music, walking, etc etc.  You pay a yearly subscription - £15, I think - which gives access to the main meetings, plus a magazine.  Then you can join as many groups as you can fit into your schedule... at present, for me, that's Novel Appreciation, Natural History, Art, Gardening, & Photography.  The cost of these varies from nothing to a couple of pounds, depending on the venue; they're led by volunteers among the members.   :)

Took a long time to post that - and in the meantime a lot of you had already answered the question... thanks!
