I really must choose my moment to let the miserable cow of a junior manager know that the Store Manager has approved them while she was on holiday this week. She'd said she was going to refuse them. She'll be livid. I certainly hope so.
Hosta ... thank her for putting in a good word with the Store Manager for you
As for Madeira ... MIL went there a few years ago ... she loved it and said there were lots of lovely gardens ... but I remember she said it was quite hilly.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
But good news had an offer of an allotment well half, that was quick just four weeks Not seen it yet only got the letter today but will let you all know and a few photos.

@Dachalover, OH & I have been visiting Madeira most winters for nearly 20 years. It's lovely; warm but not hot, full of flowers, dramatic scenery. We like walking; I guess it would be less appealing if you didn't. The north of the island is less developed than the south, but cooler and wetter, and that's where we stay these days. Funchal, the capital, has its appeal (an attractive "old town"), but lots of hotels. No beaches to speak of.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
We've been to Madeira three times (staying in Funchal every time), but always with babies so didn't do as much levada walking or garden visiting as we might otherwise have done. However, we did a bit and one day we'll do more. Like Liri says, the climate is lovely, it just looks great, there are lots of plants and good walking. Don't go for beaches!
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
Planning a quiet day today - prediction of 29, but Chicky should get 31. Still no rain here either Glenys. We got 2 mm a few days ago, but that didn’t help with the garden watering.
Joyce, your friend in Darwin must be fed up with rain. I don’t think I’ve seen a day on the weather bureau map that didn’t have rain, since about October. I keep remembering the problems of getting washing dry up there in the “wet season”.
