Lovely @Racine.  The blue of the Ceratostigma is so intense.
    SW Scotland
  • Thanks @Joyce21.  Colours were amazing today.  First time at Great Comp.  It's a hidden treasure.

Great photos everyone. Haven't been to Regent's Park this year. Hope their grand herbaceous borders are looking good. In my opinion, one of the best London parks.

How did you find Great Comp 1634 Racine? I wanted to go there earlier in the year, but things got in the way.
  • @Borderline A guy from a local nursery was telling me about Great Comp.  It's not massively advertised like some other gardens but it is part of the RHS partners programme.  They have a nursery there which specialises in salvias.

Thanks 1634 Racine, that's right. My mum wanted to order something from that nursery, but they don't do mail order. She wanted a specific Salvia, and we never managed to go down there. She eventually settled for another one. Must try to visit some time.

We went to Great Comp a couple of years ago. Main reason was to go to the salvia nursery (such a shame they don't do mail order), and to be honest the garden wasn't one l was particularly interested in,  but it was lovely.  Nice tea and cake too, l recall !

I can recommend the sandwiches, ploughman's lunch, tea and cakes :)
  • Great Dixter today for the Autumn Plant Fayre but gardens still looking fantastic.  No wonder, it felt about 25 degrees in the sun today

  • Lovely  photos of Great Dixter @1634 Racine. Must be 40 years since I visited.  Been Up North a long time. Great to see Fergus Garret stewardship of Christopher Lloyds vision is still thriving.

Just wondered if anyone can recommend a good autumn garden, dahlias, grasses, salvias etc. in the Gloucestershire/Herefordshire/ Worcs areas? I know it's a pretty big area, but l am keeping fingers crossed for a day out next week. Something a bit different from the NT ones, more of a Breezy Knees type place. Any suggestions welcome.  :)

AnniD do you know the Picton Garden near Malvern? Getting a bit late now though, it's open in the autumn. http://www.autumnasters.co.uk/

I haven't looked at this thread for a bit because my Internet isn't strong enough to see the photos unless they are small ones. But maybe I can post some now as France Telecom have repaired the phone line at last and the signal is a bit better. I loved Breezy Knees and Great Dixter.

We have just returned from Lake Maggiore, Italy and we visited some wonderful gardens. Two of them were on islands Isola Bella had very formal terraced gardens and Isola Madre was less formal so I preferred it. We also took the ferry boat to see a huge botanical garden at Villa Taranto.

No, the photo wouldn't post, I'll start another post.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
