  • That's an awful lots of meals.😁
  • It certainly is purpleallim - we share our produce with our two daughters and sell the surplus.  These squash freeze well when chopped up - there will be no wastage.
  • How many plants did they come from. @Guernsey Donkey2
  • I'm utterly impressed AND I do envy you, Guernsey Donkey!
  • There were approximately 8 plants - which I grew from seed. They needed to be watered three times a week, with a weekly feed of tomato/seaweed feed.  We are lucky to have the space to grow them - and the plants certainly help to keep the weeds down. Squash are fairly cheap to buy, so I don't think we will be saving very much money, however they are home grown and the quantity has certainly surpassed previous years results. Thanks Artemis3 & purpleallim, we have had a good sunny and hot summer which will have improved their growth.
  • That's alot from each plant, you did do well @Guernsey Donkey2😀
  • Guess what we are having for tea tomorrow!  Seriously these squash need a good few weeks in the windows our unheated greenhouse with plenty of sunshine to finish ripening them off.  The plants had virtually died so there was no point leaving them outside.

Dinner for this evening! Well, obviously not all the potatoes.  I just love this time of year, and this year I have successfully grown carrots for the first time in over 15 years  :D  mostly due to help and support from all of you, so thanks!

And while there is a squash person about GD (yours are very impressive), first time I've managed to grow these as well and a bit stumped what to do now? Plant is pretty much gone over and I have three all the same colour. They are Butterpie and a sort of creamy beige, scared to cut them off, should I? Then what?

  • If the plant has gone over then cut it off leaving a good amount of stem on it. If it stays fine then leave it out somewhere light & airy for the skin to harden off fully. Then store it in a cool & dark place until you need/ want to use it.
