My poor plant is crushing under the weight of four, even though like you I have trained the top along a support.  Must try the netting next year.

This is the support I got. Like chicken wire, but quite stout plastic. The 22L pot sits on one end of the net which goes up to the eaves and across and tied very securely.

I am loving your cucumber, I only have full sized ones and they are producing well, just started infact. But I have written down the name of that one, because.. well wow.
That's what we're picking this week. and TWENTY kg of red currants (anyone got any redcurrant recipes?)

Thanks Skandi - I'll definitely buy Cucino seed again next year. Lovely little cue's.
As for your 20KG of redcurrants - you could bathe in them :) or make some redcurrant rosé
    Lovely harvest you have there

  • Skandi, what a lovely selection of veg you have there, and the redcurrants too.  As for Pete's cucumbers WOW is all I can say. Pete, you have made a tremendous effort with the support system for the plant and have been well rewarded, do you have cucumber with every meal - my tortoises eat a few slices of ours but we would struggle to get through two a week let alone one a day! Can you remind us which variety you grow please? I have burpless (produced 6) and I think La Diva (smaller produced 10).

    Hi GD
    The variety is Cucino.
I've never particularly liked cucumbers, but when I got my new greenhouse a couple of years ago I thought I'd have a go just for fun. I quite like these (which is just as well!) - just had one with my tuna sarnie - so that's 128 so far and about another 25 to hand-out this afternoon and one for my Greek salad tonight.
One of my neighbours eats them like sweets - says she has one instead of a cuppa!
Another neighbour has 2 tortoises that also enjoy them - and the kale and lettuce I grow.
Another neigbour have their kids/grandchildren all very close -  and there's plenty for everyone.
All of a sudden my toms are starting to ripen - lots of them.... my spinach leaves are the size of rhubarb leaves - lettuce and beetroot starting to bolt..it's all happening at once!
And a cricket has just bounced onto on my foot - is that lucky? I'm sure it'll interest my (fly-catching) dog when she notices..
     :)

I have just realised I have been waiting for the toms to ripen for three weeks now. They are a good size Alicante and were the first to fruit , but three weeks no wonder it seems never ending. No wonder the others have caught up. Today I counted as I watered and have 120 ripening, what's the betting they all come at once.🙄
