You are all an advert for growing your own.
  • Oh yes Fire - it is so tasty, satisfying and rewarding to be able to produce some fruit and veg - the effort is huge, but the rewards make it all worthwhile.  We like to give some away to family and friends, we sell some to passersby and we enjoy eating some too. Yum!

Cherry tomatoes are my sole effort this year.

I thought having a bigger garden would help me produce more, but it's become apparent that a veg bed is essential so next year the old shed is coming down and a veg bed going in.🤔🔨🔧⛏☡🤕

Hi everyone, not been logging on much recently too busy watering! Great produce everyone. I think I already said I do love this time of year.
This is one of my regular trugs from a few days ago, sadly the heat has "done" for the rest of the summer sun cherries so we only got that one picking. Peas have just come on stream to go with the Broad Beans, but I confess I have a  gap in the Radishes again, I never quite seem to get the continuity with these right, either 2 rows together at the same time or  a gap when one lot finish & next not ready. Ah well maybe next year!

One thing that puts me off growing fruit and veg is how do you store all the produce?  I would be afraid that a lot of it would go to waste.
  • We freeze our surplus, my mother used to make jam with the excess fruits and many years ago she would bottle the excess fruit too.  We do give a lot of produce away to family and friends and also have an honesty stall to sell surplus produce as well as my plants, pines cones and logs by our garden gate.  Nothing is wasted here Mary and I am sure you could copy some of these ideas too.

I echo what GD2 says. Friends & family benefit most if we can't use it all ourselves.
