Well the ride up to North Cape was interesting. The buses set off and after half an hour queued up at a barrier. They then have to follow a snowplough up through the mountains to the North cape. Think Lands End but with a lot of snow, minus 11, biting cold wind, and a lot of Japanese getting excited having pictures taken in front of the globe. ... and the shop has Trolls. The snowplough was huge. It puts gritsy bitsy teeny weeney anti slip machinery to shame.  The blade was taller than I am.

Back to the boat, Doug Allen has finally made it.

I can definitely recommend Yaktrax. We were walking on inches thick sheet ice, and feeling quite confident about it. As not many people on the boat are under 27, not breaking a hip is an advantage.  We have had some interesting conversations about bucket lists

Tomorrow we go to the ice hotel.  It was fully dark at 3pm, and we are now rolling about on the high seas and its pitch black out there.

Fidget, I hope there's not too much rolling about on a rough sea.

Will you be sleeping on top of reindeer skins at the ice hotel?

I watched a tv programme on building an ice hotel. Think the chap in charge was Irish.

  • Yes Fidget, I remember the 'convoy' following the snowplough there and back to the Cape. I bought a Moose with Nordkapp written on his jumper! Do you go all the way up to the Russian border?

We get to the top bit tomorrow. Then we are racing the boat back between two points at 2 in the morning on snowmobiles. I have had my head measured for a helmet.

All we bought at the cape was two hot chocolates.  Everything else was too expensive.  I think the ice hotel is quite close to the russian border.

The boat is bouncing a bit . Hubby has gone to bed with two stugeron.  The Northern Lights were good tonight, right over the boat, and swirling around.

An exciting race ahead Fidget !

Busy, good to get ahead with the weeding before any of them seed around.

Joyce - we had 16 months of drought and it didn't start raining properly till mid December.    We've had 2 days with no rain this month.   Looks like it's going toe dry tomorrow and most of Wednesday but wet again on Thursday then fine for a few days.   Let's hope it's also fine in Paris as I'm off there on Saturday to play with Possum for a few days.

Fidget - enjoy your ice hotel.   Hope the boat's not too bumpy for the next leg.

Busy - well done.  I have a heavy date with weeds in February.

I've been sewing - no surprise.  Log cabin glasses case finished.  Pyjamas finished.  Trousers just need the inside leg seam sewing and then hems and finishing of the waistband.  Jacket next.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
