Happy New Year I know we are not local weather but live in South Africa we have had high winds today and 2 palm branchesare lying over the swimming pool and early this morning our eldest dog of 16yrs fell in the pool she manage to swim to the side, and got to the steps so our daughter and i got her out, and she is fine now. OUR grandaughter dog doesnot like fireworks so we saw the new year in trying ti keep her happy. Enjoy your holiday hosta our temp is 26.8
Daughter 2, who lives between us and Bordeaux has just had the high winds, says the sun has come out and the storm is on it's way to us. But the sun has come out here, had heavy rain and a bit of wind so far. Sounds very bad chez Obelixx.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
We're in a sunny spell at the mo with a full rainbow and deep purple clouds to the immediate north. It's apparently much worse further north and parts of Brittany are without power. More clouds on their way here from the west but the wind's dropped a bit and I think the worst is over. It should wear itself out as it heads inland. I hope you escape without damage Busy.
OH has nipped out to retrieve the netting. Thank goodness we had those two dodgy ash trees cut down as one was very close to the house. No snow or ice to make things "interesting" either.
Definitely a day for staying tucked up and warm in the northern hemisphere.
I hope your dogs are OK now Glenys and there are no further mishaps.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Happy new(ish) year to everyone! Hope it brings better health and more sleep to those who need it, and plenty of gardening time for all.
Being lightweights, OH and I were asleep (with the cat) when the fireworks started last night. I got up to close the window and we drifted off again...
A short walk in the park this morning revealed that most of our town's population was still sleeping off the festivities. The paths are horribly muddy thanks to the "Tod Cross" bike race on Sunday, but all we need is a bit of heavy rain to sort that out! (Though preferably not as heavy as you've been having, Obelixx - that's not funny...)
I'm trying to do my tax return. Well, what else should I be doing on New Year's Day??
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Managed to get out for a walk - our morning rain blew through to leave blue skies and great clear views. But a brief interlude, as it seems more rain is on its way.
Hope Hosta gets away on his holidays, and has a great time drying out and warming up. Chicklet flies back to Australia on Wednesday, to do some travelling in the southern hemisphere before starting back at Uni at the end of Feb. Its been lovely having her at home ....gonna have to brace myself again
Winds are calming now and it should stay dry for a few hours. There's been some damage to a barn wall and we'll need to get the masons in to fix it as it supports a beam......... Took this in an earlier lull
Pond filling at last.
Good that you got your walk in Chicky. Where's Chicklet planning to explore? Possum is back in Belgium studying for her Jan exams now but she and I will meet up in Paris for a few days at the end of Jan before she starts her internship. Twixt now and then I have to sew her some formal clothes. Suits for EU meetings and such. Long time since I needed a suit for work......
Chicken tagine for dinner and then no booze or puds for a few days I think. System cleaning!
Liri - dozing? Cat cuddling? Still, tax returns wait for no man or woman I expect - or at least the people who deal with them.

Obxx - she has a fantastic circuit planned - Bali, Malaysis, Singapore, Fiji and NZ ......I am more than a little jealous . Didn’t realise Possum started her internship so soon - thought it would be in the summer. So the pressure’s on you for some speed sewing. ✂️??
PS that really is an impressive pond - can’t wait to see pics of its progress
Obelixx, been doing some cat cuddling too, and telly watching when there's been anything worthwhile (we're "Only Connect" addicts in this house). But I've now got a headache from trying to work out what the **** the HMRC's Capital Gains information means. (We gave our Scottish cottage to our son, but by some fiendish Govt calculation, this apparently means we owe them money...)
Your pond looks to have great potential. Do you need more rain???

Oh dear, Liri, I think it might, unless the cottage was your principal residence. It doesn't seem fair. I found this article in the Telegraph, you've probably seen it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/tax/capital-gains/do-i-have-to-pay-tax-when-i-give-away-a-property/
We've been watching Harry Potter again, recorded. One more to go.
Yes, Lizzie - if only I could specify what the government uses my money for... housing the homeless, perhaps? Hmmm...
