Pat, there used to be a joke thread on this forum, mostly gardening jokes. You could always start another one and see how it goes.
Clari, you can buy garlic for eating in the supermarket, split it up and plant the cloves.
Must go to the village and post Christmas cards, not finished them yet though, but also need a bottle of gas as the kitchen heater one has run out and the 2 in the garage are empty. OH's job to see we always have a full one, he must have forgotten.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Punkdoc, they can help themselves to anything they want when I'm dead.
I'll be dead, I'll have no more need of them.
My children have been informed that my body will be going to medicine / science when I go and they're fine with it. It also saves them the cost of a funeral
Raining here now and lots more forecast for the day. I think I'll be cleaning out the woodburner and then spending the day in the tunnel.
Pdoc ... a small celebration here this morning at the news from Alabama
The news must've come through in the middle of the night before I woke and turned the radio off (having forgotten to pre-set it to switch off after an hour) as an obsequious DT featured in my dream
As for Presumed Consent ... once they're of no use to me, doctors are welcome to any of my bits and pieces to help others have a better life ... I've filled in the appropriate bit on my Driving Licence forms and my OH and my children are all aware that if they refuse to go along with my instructions I shall come back and haunt them
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Great result in Alabama. I just hope the Republicans there don't start playing even more dirty.
With you on presumed consent Pdoc. Has worked very well for years in Belgium and I believe France introduced it earlier this year. Can't understand why anyone would say no when they can help another person.
Chicky - glad you 3 are home safe and hope you're having a great time together. Possum has finally come out of her latest funk about her internship so she should be fine for her Xmas visit. That's the theory anyway.
Dove - could you consult with your foody friends about what to do with celery liqueur? Been sorting out a box of bottles and found it lurking - offered by a friend in Belgium. The only thing I can think of is a Bloody Mary but we don't drink those.
Snap Busy - OH is in charge of our gas bottles too and the two spares are both empty........ Ours are for the gas hob so kind of essential. Xmas cards later today and this evening.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
I think that the key, as you point out Hosta and Dove, is having had the conversation with your relatives.
I was often in a situation, where it was clear that no discussion had taken place, and family members were unaware, that the patient carried a donor card.
At such an incredibly stressful moment, the default position, was sadly often no.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team

I know Pdoc. Some people are just too worried about death to talk about it. FIL refused to make a will because he didn't want to think about dying and got very angry if anyone mentioned it. We've told Possum we want to help medical research and she wasn't too happy. With any luck she has many years to get used to the idea. If not, I'll use Dove's ruse and threaten to haunt her.

" I don’t think the hospitals will be running a free cremation service,?"
My understanding is, and I might well be wrong, they take / use what they want and after a period of time, cremate what's left and give " the remains" back to the family.

Morning all. Raining.

This is a bit of a sermon and probably very presumptuous of me, so you may not want to read any further.
PRESUMED CONSENT FOR ORGAN DONATION.
A lot of doctors are coming out against this, but are not discussing some of the key issues.
Most organs come from patients dying on ICU.
Many of these people do now carry organ donation cards.
We still have to ask the relatives permission to obtain the organs.
About 35% of these relatives then refuse to allow donation.
Presumed consent works very well in several other countries, which have much higher organ donation rates than we do.

I don’t think the hospitals will be running a free cremation service,?
Thanks Dove.
