    Hi all

Fully agree about Vitamin D, supplements may be useful for those who don't get enough sunshine.

Vit. D. is also thought to play an important role in brain chemistry and there is some evidence that supplements, may help in depression.

Winter sunshine in the UK, will not make Vit. D., but is vital for the production of Serotonin [ the happy hormone ]

Managed to lift a couple of Cannas this morning, but then spent most of the rest of the day in bed. It is going to be a long job.

Between October and early March in Britain we  cannot   get enough vitamin D from sunlight because of the low angle of the sun in our winter in British latitudes. So even if the sun is shining we we cannot get   what we need.  That is half of the year.

The Scots are in an even worse situation.

Interesting reading about the lack of healthy sunlight and vitamin D. In some of the records of early European settlement of NSW, they stated that the first generation born here were taller than their immigrant parents. I don’t think many people here lack vitamin D, but we are known for skin cancer.image

    Either way, you can’t win!

    Morning all.

Dove, torn meniscus is what I had . A little bit came away which is what was removed during surgery. Not problems since. Touch wood.

Vitamin D for me in 2 weeks and no factor 50 either.

I once read , probably untrue , that we Scots have more skin cancer than the rest of the world put together down to our stupidity when the sun does come out and our tendency to go out and fry. Hopefully things have changed since my childhood.

More grass cutting leaf clearance / bagging up today before the rain arrives tomorrow.

The weekend is almost here folks.

Hosta things obviously haven't changed if you don't use sunscreen image  Knee still much improved ... I'm meeting a friend for lunch in Cromer so will take my stick with me just in case , but Im pretty sure I'll be fine - it would've been difficult if it was like it was yesterday morning.

Pdoc (( hugs)) take it very steady!

Dove, I do use a bit, but not factor 50. I use 8 on my face and 4 on other bits until they're brown.

Waaay too much to comment on.

My mum takes glucosamine and swears by it. She doesn't notice any difference when she takes it but sees a noticeable difference if she stops.

As a newborn I refused to take my cod liver oil. The health visitor/midwife/know-all was very impatient with my new mum and decided to show her how to make me take it. I have still never taken cod liver oil!!!!! image

I'd forgotten about the blue tits stealing the cream off the milk Obe.

Can't stand Dickens. Read Hardy as a youth but couldn't do it now!!! I much prefer his poetry to his prose. Not a fan of the Brontes and love Pride and Prejudice. I have lost count of the number of times I've read it and it's still funny.

    Enjoy your Friday.

I like Thomas Hardy  I am ashamed to say I have never read any Jane Austen. It's about time I did so..

Fairy I honestly can't remember but probably was as we were all round that area. It's so nice up there.

Punk, steady as you go, one day at a time. An old physician I worked for used to recommend "a small sherry before meals and a 20 minute rest after" can you just imagine anyone saying that nowadays!

We bought some gorgeous rhodis yesterday st the fab grower near Perth.  Faithi, nice red, Taurus another red and azalea luteum to plant next to the one that's got straggly. best bit was talking to the plantswoman

    is it really Friday again?!
