Haven't been on for a few days: have I missed much?
Work is going tits up in a major way; we've lost (as in zero notice just an email saying bye) two managers above us and not heard anything about who is taking their roles on until a replacement is found. Honestly do I attract such incompetence or do companies just hide it until I start?
Still; I'm trying to think of long term plans for the grandparents. On Saturday I had to drive grandma's car (her daughter had been using it all week as hers was kaput) back to their house. Why grandma (who insists she drives it regularly) couldn't drive it back as the whole family were together that weekend I've no idea.
Anyway... going in to their house it's clear that they are not in the slightest bit coping. The toilets smell worse than a public urinal and the whole house - for people who are quite house proud - is... well it sounds harsh but "unclean".
This is after they complained they had spent two days cleaning ready to go to her daughter's.
Unfortunately there are some issues
1. Grandparents are stubborn. Grandma especially does get best to inflame the situation and unfortunately her daughter and her grandson (my partner) haven't yet learnt how to control their emotions. Honestly she can turn the simplest of things into a major row. It took me two years of fighting to get them to go for a much needed hearing test.
2. Daughter is an only child and is aware there are issues but I don't think she knows it is this bad. She is scared about her parents having to give up their independence and the idea of them moving in with her, as much as she would like this, will give her a mental breakdown (plus their house isn't suitable in that grandma and the stairs is a trauma all of its own).
3. I'm not local. If I was local I could nip in a few evenings a week and keep on top of things. I would invite them to live with us but that makes it harder for daughter as she's then unable to visit as easily.
I can see now why people spread across the country are so quick to jump to popping family in to nursing homes.
G'day Pat and Hello to Aunty Rach and all those arriving since I first popped my nose above the duvet
OH and I need to get some photos and drawings done so we're heading for the North Norfolk coast this morning ... all is quiet weather wise here in the east.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Lily; you mention it being dark. I was thinking that too. But then We are so close to clocks going back I think the warm weather is tricking us in to not believing we're later into the year.
That sounds a bit too interesting Dove. I hope everyone is ready fo it and have tucked treasures into sheltered corners and tied the rest down. Our forecast has changed and we may get some local stormy bits in the early hours of Wednesday and maybe even some rain. Not holding my breath.
LP - I do hope your family can get a new place soon and a good one.
Chicky - glad you have happy chicklets. Helps to relax a bit when you know they're OK doesn't it? Oz will be great too.
Joyce - gorgeous beach and Busy - San Seb looks lovely too. I do like yacht and boat basins. All those stories and adventures to imagine now my sailing days are over.
Clari - grandson and daughter need a firm hand and so does grandma but you can only advise and you have enough on your plate without inviting emotionally manipulative and immature people to share your precious space.
Must go and sew and clean and get ready for patchwork class. No idea what I should take so that'll be everything.

Given that it's coming in as a southwesterly and no worse than we get every winter, I suspect that shed roof was doomed in any case. We're actually quite sheltered from the southwesterlies here - it's roaring in the woods up the hill but not even breezy here yet - though the sky is very ominously yellow. I expect I'll lose t'internet this afternoon - we usually do when it gets above a light breeze.
I'll send you a pm about grandma, Clari.
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend, with plenty of cake and celebrations and visits. I spent some time on Sunday with my poor little broken dog sitting in the sunshine, watching the pheasants squabbling in the marsh grass. Shooting hasn't really got going yet so there are loads about.
Stay safe today, chaps - especially in Ireland and west coast of Scotland. Better to lose the lid off the bin rather than risk a tree falling on you as you chase it up the road.

RG - I thought doggy had mended now. Hope he's OK. Plenty of shooting around here but for roe deer and wild boar and they put signs up to warn you they'll be at it so you can avoid the woods and fields involved. Rasta doggy hates the bang-bang so we avoid it if we can or keep on her lead to stop her running home.
Our skies looked ominous last night but they were just pretending.

Just heard from a friend living on the North Cornwall coast that their garden shed roof has blown off ... and the storm hasn't arrived yet

Can’t remember what you’ve all said, but hello Lilyp, and Dove, if your nose is still out.
A out to get something for dinner - baked beans on toast sounds easy and probable.
That sounds a bit too interesting Dove. I hope everyone is ready fo it and have tucked treasures into sheltered corners and tied the rest down. Our forecast has changed and we may get some local stormy bits in the early hours of Wednesday and maybe even some rain. Not holding my breath.
