    Some fantastic photos!

    Here's one of mine.

That's lovely to see (although that's a fly not a bee by the way ;) )

I had a couple of close encounters today. I had to relocate this grass snake while I was clearing some of the long grass. Normally I'd say not to handle reptiles if you can help it but I didn't have much choice this time. I've been keeping reptiles since I was a kid and this one was very calm so I risked a quick photo before letting it go. It still musked me a bit so I'm glad I had the gloves on.

I also found this lovely silver Y moth. A nice easy one to ID as its name is written on its wings.

and lastly this broad bodied chaser was using some of my bamboo canes as a hunting lookout. Sadly I didn't manage to get a pic of it catching anything. I hope it got some horseflies though, I must have lost a pint of blood to those buggers today.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I believe this to be a Elephant Hawk Moth Caterpillar fighting back.

Great timing Flinster...and great pix. How lucky to be in the right place at the right time  :)
Really stunning wild edges. I see you're enjoying your new camera....  :D
I think that hawkmoth cat'pillar is sticking his tongue out at you, cornelly   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Sorry that my photography isn't up to the standards here, but I thought you might like to see the chap I found marauding through my strawberry patch this morning. And I thought it was blackbirds and squirrels who were doing all the damage!

Lovely find Paul, I have never found one despite having rotting wood piles for them. Maybe I need to look harder.
