@Fire I think that's just the dark patch they have on their wing isn't it? It looks a bit odd because of the way the light is shining through.

I love that butterfly pic, it has a dreamlike quality about it.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Gorgeous pics @Fire. I love seeing demoiselles flying, often wondered if they are responsible for stories of fairies.

The sunny weather has brought so many insects out the last couple of days which is great to see. Think this poppy wins the award for most popular destination in our garden this morning. There were 4 bees in there at one point before it even really opened. The whole flowerhead was rattling and buzzing
  • Jelllyfire, those are hoverflies, not bees. They don't have the long antennae of bees.

yes I know, the bees are in the middle under the stamen. 4 bees at one point, gave up counting the hoverflies!
  • I didn't notice them till you pointed them out!

WE, yes, the cellular pattern maybe just the pattern on the wing. I thought it might be some kind of parasite...

Apologies for the quality of the photo but I'm really excited - just taken my first photo of the hedgehog in my garden!  I've thought it's been around for a while, judging from the poo left around. There's no slugs about at the moment so it's enjoying the cat food I left out for it
