  • Dusting Hosta? image  What dust ... there wasn't any there the other day.

Well, I'm back from the farm shop with beef for tomorrow, bread, another Crown Prince squash to store in the garage and apples ... then neighbour across the way rang the doorbell and gave us more apples image maybe I should have bought pork rather than beef :-/ ... but they'll keep until next weekend.

I popped out between the showers and picked another load of tomatoes ... we've had the best crop ever this year ... the Sungolds are amazing. I'm roasting some for the freezer and will make a sauce for pizza later in the week. I'm also roasting some red and yellow peppers which were a freebie from the farm shop as they'd got soft spots on them so couldn't be sold ... they'll go in the freezer too and come in handy later.

I must try to make some space in the freezer ... it's full of runner beans and raspberries.

You can keep the runner beans Dove image but I can help you with the raspberries image

r'girl - there's plenty of Brits who know sod all about their own country too. I work with one....  image

It's quite sad really - you only need to look at the photos people post on here - all sorts of different landscapes, yet so many folk have never witnessed any of it. Too caught up in the daily grind and technology to notice the gems all around them. image

Happy birthday Busy.  Enjoy your day out and lunch.

I have been busy making lentil and mushroom slice for lunch using mushrooms form our "lawn" which OH had checked out at the pharmacy.   Yum.   Dinner tonight has to include sweetcorn and cabbage and broccoli form the garden.    OH has been out there weeding the potager now the soil is all soft and lovely - another 11mm of rain yesterday.

When I had a proper job in an office I had a newspaper cutting on my desk - Two American women overheard talking after a tour of Windsor castle - "Well, it's all very beautiful but I wouldn't have built it so close to the airport".   Clearly listened to very word their guide said.

There was a Tex/Mex princess (3 hours to get dressed, coiffed and made up every morning) in my cookery group for a while, around the time of the 200th birthday of the USA.  She was mortified to discover that our old Belgian farmhouse was older still and had seen Napoleon and all that lot go by on their way to and from Waterloo.  There were also tank track scars in the cobbles made by the Allies chasing Germans back home in 1944.   That same lady tried to do a walking tour of old, cobbled Bruges I'd organised - wearing 4" heels.

Europe is certainly blessed with some wonderful buildings full of ingenuity, skill and artistry in the conception and construction but there are also some absolute horrors.  I expect we have to have the latter to appreciate the former but I don't see why we can't still strive for beauty in form and function.

I have finally heard from the garden group I joined last April - there's a visit to two gardens tomorrow.  Typically, the forecast is for it to pee down all over all day.   Wellies then.

It is the season for colds to start - wrap up and take care if you're suffering or just starting the sniffles.  Glad BH is better DL.

Happy Saturday everyone.  Hope you get some good gardening/walking/visiting weather for all your projects.

That's one of the funniest I've read.  Can't stop laughing. They are so US centric, that I don't know why they bother to travel elsewhere. image

When we moved into our flat in Goa , we bought tons of stuff from the electrical shop.

The day after it was delivered, 2 young men turned up on a moped and came to the door.

" You bought a microwave yesterday, can we come in?"

He asked for a cup of cold water, put it in the microwave and fiddled the dial. He made random "tum te tum" kinda noises then opened the door, took out the mug, put his hand on the side and his eyebrows lifted.

" Feel that " he said

    "yeah,..... it's warm" said I.

    " yes , isn't it quick?"

" Erm we've had a microwave oven in UK for over 25 years"

His wee face was a picture of " crestfallen"

I did feel  a wee bit guilty.
