  • Wonky used to do that ... white as a sheet and shaking like BillyO  ... it seemed to be a proper uncontrollable phobia  ... then when she got her own place she discovered that Dove wasn't always available to deal with the problem and other people weren't always interested in helping .. now she has her very own spider filled garden shed ... and ignores the spiders  image

Spiders......I used to shout for my dad or OH but when I had my daughter I was determined not to show her I was scared and since then spiders don't bother me.

  • That spider is really quite small - the photo is bigger than life-size.  image

The only spiders which I don't much like picking up (though I can do it if I have to) are the enormous scuttly house spiders, which the cat likes to hunt.

And no, Obelixx, I don't make a habit of going into the loft straight after Christmas dinner.  But it's nice to know I could if I wanted to... and wouldn't become a Wedged Bear in Great Tightness.

Anyone else brought up on Winnie the Pooh?  I can still hear my father reading the stories to me...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Yes but the voice in my head is Willie Rushton's (on Jackanory), not my Dad's.

"It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily."So it is.""And freezing.""Is it?""Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."

I always liked Eeyore best image

Love Winnie the Pooh and of course Willie Rushton image

No W the P in my life till my late 20s which, frankly, is too late to "get it".

I have itchy bites all over - thighs, body, ankles, backs of knees, arms, shoulder.  Never feel anything but develop more each day.  OH not touched.   Any ideas?

Dunno.  It's a mystery.  I haven't been in the garden except to water pots, trim a silk tree and wander about between shed and garage and I never see or feel the blighters.

  • I introduced my hubby to W the P in his mid-20s.  He's never looked back.  image

Maybe neighbours could tell you if there's a local biting beastie, Obelixx.  Round here it's the Northern flower beetle, a tiny spotted-winged creature which normally lives on aphids, but tries to dissolve humans if no aphids are available.  I doubt if you get those where you are, though...

I wasn't scared of spiders, but never liked moths, for reasons I won't bore you all with. When I watched older fairylet, when she was labout two, chatting with her resident spider in her bedroom, I realised how silly it was. Helped me no end  image

Lovely pic Liri. I've not had a look for garden spiders recently, but we have had a lot of misty, moisty mornings and webs on plants along the path to the back gate. Lovely jubbly.

I have a large house spider at the moment who runs across the living room floor each night, looking for a mate. He has a run round, and goes back out into the hall. Not sure where he spends the night, but I always say hello to him  image

Youngest would wet her pants if she saw him....image

Loved W the P too. Eeyore is brilliant.

Sorry you're itchy and scratch Obs -  got any calamine? Have you never had the pleasure of Poohsticks? Even now, if I cross a bridge over a burn or river, I'm tempted.....and sometimes succumb image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
