Viburnum opulus! I trimmed back my snowball bush and stuck the cuttings in some water. The soft green cuttings didn’t do anything, but the one with some brown ‘twig’ has shot out some roots. On a side note, I forgot to label what they were, and had to ask on the forum for someone to identify them. Have learnt my lesson!

Woohoo! White penstemon has rooted about 3" up the stem.
Looks like a long cutting gives more chances.

Try again @earlydaze. Mine took a few weeks. Keep the water clean and topped up.

  • Due to this thread, I took cuttings of Osteospermum and Dianthus last September and they have been in my greenhouse which I heat to just frost free.

The Osteosprumum have grown flowers but no roots and look really healthy.
The Dianthus have grown roots but look pretty poorly.
What shall I do? Pot them all up and watch?

Pot up the ones with roots in little pots anyway. Enjoy the osteo flowers for now but to be honest, it doesn't seem like it's too interested in growing roots. I suppose you could pinch out the flower to give it something else to think about
