I'm going to have a go at doing this with my Salvia and Penstemon.

Do you basically follow the same instructions as growing cuttings in pots - just minus the cutting soil and rooting hormone. Do you need to cut the leaves in half?

Just strip off the bottom leaves so they don’t touch the water no need to cut leaves on either of those.

Try both. This is all experimental. Let us know what works.
As regards penstemon, you just bung them in the water . Some will root and some won't. Maybe we'll find out why😊

I'm so glad whoever it was started this thread.  I've just nicked a few sprigs off a municipal pink flowered hawthorn, and a flowering blackcurrant, and stuck them in water.

    Right. I've done mine:

    • Gaura.  2 kinds They've worked before
    • Potentilla. The red one
    • Fuchsia. The one that looks like a skinny pink ballerina
    • Penstemon. Various
    • Hebe . Variegated with fat leaves
    • Philadelphus. The one with lime green leaves
    That should do for now!

I was just wondering how everyone's cuttings were getting on? So far I've took cuttings of clematis Josephine, basil, aubrietia, Campanula carpatica, and solanum glasnevin. Still early days for all of mine but has anyone had any further success?

I thinkk there's no doubt about mint rooting. Don't know about the others. We'll see!
