Just read this thread and didn't realise that so many plants or shrubs could be obtained from rooting in water. I'll be having a go at that when the time comes.
I do root plants in water but don’t often experiment. I had to cut back a well established rosemary that had split and fallen over. I took cuttings about three weeks ago. Those potted up as per” normal” look to be doing ok but the surprise is the cuttings I popped in water are rooting too! I never expected a plant that survives on little water would root that way. More experiments to follow!
I've potted up two broken bits of woody salvia, they looked a bit limp in water, so I dipped them in honey water for ten minutes and stuck them in pots of garden soil in a bag, didn't water as they didn't need it! 4 weeks on, they've been outside for a week and doing well!
My ajuga have rooted also the ivy and some vinca! Still waiting for the Gaura, penstemon and salvia though. I check every day sometimes several times a day! Think I might be getting a bit obsessive! My thinking is that if the cuttings know I’m looking and talking to them they might root quicker!

You know what they say : A Watched Pot Never Boils !
I’m trying to root hydrangea paniculata in water. I also have the Vicks plants in water. I might end up sticking them in a pot though if I get worked waiting.
