I’ve always rooted carnation from a bunch of bought flowers.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

....I, therefore, looked at other posts of this American poster....and this is what I found:

I cut off an out-of-control, 2' long leaf from my Sanseveria plant, cut into 6 pieces and poked into a pot of soil.  Need to replace the 6 I lost ….

The result of the requested expanding- and expounding?  I'm very mildly shocked, though I shouldn't be at all.  I know.

Some of the comments on this thread, by a small number of people who make a habit of that behaviour,  are pretty unpleasant - to put it mildly.

No need for it. You understand perfectly well what the lady in America meant. Grow up.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I work in psychology/mental health and I find some of the behaviour patterns of people on forums absolutely fascincating. You've got the regulars who often gang up on new people, berate them, have a bit of an "I told you so" attitude, and then you've got the "younguns", the newbies who either apologise/thank profusely and kiss their feet, or the ones who stand up to them and in turn, get battered back by the regulars. Then of course there is the 3rd group, who just ignore it all. Very few of those on this forum. I can only think of 1 in all my years of observing and I have a great amount of respect for that person for not getting involved. Those are the most resilient people who are less likely to suffer from mental health conditions. Such a melting pot!

With regards to plants that root in water, I don't have much success! :D
