I’ve kept everything that has stayed green, just in case. I threw one of them out as it had started to go rotten from the base up. I’ve got two more cuttings that still look ok, taken at the same time as this one and three newer ones. So I’ll keep them for as long as they stay green.

The two Salvia cuttings I took, I think are a lost cause. They’re still alive, but the bottoms have gone all callused and bumpy - and they’ve started to die back from the top as well 🙁

Anyway, a few more months and I can start growing some more seeds! So I’ll need the windowsill space.

Hebe Caledonia ‘accidental’ cutting has now started growing roots. It’s been in water since October!

I think Spring or late summer is the best time for any cuttings. Fuchsias don’t root well in the hot summer months, you have to remember that from autumn onward, most plants are resting, try again, don’t give up.
Fuchsia and penstemon are the only plants I grow in water. Everything else does well straight into pots of compost.

I tried Clematis Armandii in October but none of the cuttings rooted and went brown and soggy. I'll have another go sat in in the Spring.
All my Penstemon cuttings placed in soil in a pot did root so they'll be ready to plant out when the weather is a tad warmer !
Great success with seeds from a blue Hibiscus shrub- the seeds germinated and now I have two more to plant out when the weather improves.

Jay, Well done on the penstemon cuttings,  they’re nice  and easy and a good plant to start with.
my Blue hibiscus seeds germinated but I put the small plants out in the summer and they all died. 😢

Ive got a slight problem with poking them in the soil. Many more than expected have taken. Now what do I do with them? Ive potted them on but have no use for them
I also poked some rose prunings in th soil not expecting them to take. Some did and ive no idea which but I can narrow it down to plants that I already have😐

Don’t get attached to them, put them in the compost bin if you can’t find a need for them.

Car boot sale!  You’ve got to buy compost, pot them on, keep them somewhere, pay for a stall, drive to get there,  then barely make enough to cover you costs.
Try not to grow more than you need, just a few spares for casualties and dump them before they start costing you.
