I wouldn’t bother doing pelargoniums in water they are so easy just poked in a pot of compost, you can put 4/6 in a flower pot.  Never had a failure with those. The ivy leaf ones are even easier.
I've got fuchsia just rooted but I wouldn’t try anything else now, wait until Spring for penstemons through to summer,  fuchsias prefer to root when it’s cooler so start of the year or September I find is best.

I'd agree with Hexagon, Danae.  Next spring you could, perhaps, show us their progress?
  • wooohooo!

Roots? looks like roots on 5 out of 6 cuttings. How exciting!

Inspired by reading through this thread I thought I would give it a go with some Erigeron karvinskianus Mexican fleabane that I wanted some more of. I don't get much of a chance to check on their progress this time of year, its dark leaving for work in the morning and dark when returning home.

They are currently sat in an unheated greenhouse, should I leave them be until spring? pot them on if they develop more roots? what's the best thing to do to get them through the winter?

Wait till they have a few more roots each and then pot up in good compost that is free draining so John Innes loam type, maybe with some added grit or vermiculite.  Water well but allow to drain and then I would keep the pots in the greenhouse over the winter but check them once a week.  The parent plants are hadry but young cuttings will appreciate some TLC till spring.

  • Thank you for the advice, I will try to keep them going through the winter.

  • 3 months later, the second of my original Penstemon cuttings has finally started to root! A month after the first.
