@B3 I know! Every time I get something to grow from a cutting or seed I get ridiculously excited 😄

I have managed a hibiscus rosa-sinensis cutting in water and it's now potted up and flowering.  Took loads of penstemon cuttings in early September - maybe a bit late - and only one has not gone brown and died but it still hasn't rooted.

Before we moved here I rooted cuttings of a neighbour's weeping willow and an ordinary twisted willow from our own garden in water and brought one of each here for this garden.  The others were planted along the boggy stream bundary of our old paddock.

Recently, a new gardening friend has given me a branch of her Dragon's Claw twisted willow as hers has to be removed as it's taking too much water from surrounding plants in an already dry garden.   Still waiting for roots but fingers crossed.

When is the best time for sedum cuttings in water?  I want to increase my stock.

There is obviously a time and a place for taking penstemon cuttings. It's usually miss, miss hit miss for me. I 've no idea why some take and some don't. Gauras aren't so particular and take every time - apart from the variegated one which I've never managed.
Had some success with poking random cuttings of shrubs in soil in pots. Some have taken. Now what'll I do with them? How many hydrangea or euonymus does your average gardener need??

@Obelixx - I would suspect from how easily mine rooted, that you can probably do sedum anytime.

Does anybody know if Ivy leaf pelargoniums root in water as good as the Zonal variety's ?
