I'm sure it's fine in cities to have fewer staff in shops as " everyone is on holiday" but where do they GO on holiday? The seaside, but they still expect us to serve more customers with fewer staff . ( our staff need to take holidays during school holidays too )
Isn't that where the students come in Hosta? Chicklet gets work here when she is back from Uni covering the more permanent staff's holidays - in the summer, easter and christmas. Win - win .....she gets to earn some money, they get to take holidays. Littlest chicklet is currently negotiating the same - slightly different as her cafe is staffed by students studying at the Art College in Farnham - when they go home for the holidays, she is back on the scene.
Lovely afternoon for sitting in the sun and reading Out for a celebratory mesl with Littlest Chicklet tonight .....a bit after the event, but tonight was the first time she could fit us into her jam packed social schedule
On a more irritating note, just noticed two of our box balls have succumbed to blight .....the others are now presumably on borrowed time too
Absolutely. No normal student functions at 6am and 10pm leaves them no time for some fun with their mates before bed. Nor can I see it being good for family or social life for the non students.
Shame about your box balls Chicky. How many more do you have?
Everyone is flaked out here except me. OH has been hand pulling weeds in the potager all day rather than strimming and has had a shower and is now flopped. Possum is watching vlogs and stuff on her PC - so energetic! Both dogs are flopsy and so are the kittens. Cosmos is so relaxed he's lying belly up and legs akimbo amongst piles of stuff on the bed in my sewing room. Very elegant.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Have lots more Obxx - will need to find a deer resistant substitute for my winter structure - anyone any thoughts. Thought yew might work but apparently deer nibble the new shoots, so would need to get them to the right size before planting out .... whiich sounds expensive
Thank you all for your kind thoughts, you have all been keeping me company for the past few days and its been a lovely escape to read your goings ons!
Currently cooking very well done steak, corn on cob, stuffed mushrooms and chunky cut chips for OH and his son, who has come over to cheer his Dad up and is happy to be rewarded in steak!
Just treated myself to some lovely tulip bulb combos from lidl, two packs for 3 quid
Best wishes and have a lovely weekend one and all!

Liri ... great decision ... hope it works out for everyone concerned
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
One wonders who decides staffing levels?

Good luck Liri.

Hope we won't need too much luck, Hosta... but you never know...
Dove, best wishes and hugs from me to the Wonky family
chicky, many of "our" students aren't coming back after the new shift changes were introduced.
I can't say I blame them. 6am -2pm, or 2pm - 10pm. I've refused to move to them, so can't blame them for choosing not to either.
ahhh - that makes more sense. Both of those shifts are nightmares
. Perhaps they need a rethink
