Hello folks ... not ignoring you .... honest .... just watching the last night of the athletics ......... son is in the stadium watching, lucky thing (that is, if he's found somewhere to park his car!!!).
Have a good evening everyone .......
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Clari - I have always found that birds take less from feeders in August. Nothing to do with cats. More a function of plentiful food in the wild - seeds, berries, insects........... It'll pick up again in autumn but in the meantime, just put out small amounts to keep them interested and help any youngsters or old birds having difficulties.
Smelly lamb has been consumed and it was delish. Recipe from a series Jane Grigson did for the Observer in the 80s on great women chefs of Britain. She did a series on regional recipes too and one of my all time favourite desserts is Charter pudding from East Anglia. I can post the recipes if you like.
My maternal grandparents were Glasgow Scots/Irish and Durham Irish/English. Both used scunnered as meaning disappointed - expressed in less polite terms from the Scottish contingent - but I also know other, younger Scots who use it to mean cream crackered. My partenal grandparents were Geordie Plymouth Brethren so a match made in heaven - NOT!
Still not watching athletics but pleased Team GB is doing well.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Obelixx - you'll find the Glaswegian fraternity tend to use the word 'pure' in front of scunnered as well, meaning that we're 'incredibly disappointed'...
My birds have been slightly absent lately too - although the coal tits were there yesterday and the day before. Plenty of insects etc around for them. I also had a visit last week from what I think is either a willow warbler or a chiffchaff (probably juvenile or female) which was snacking on some greenfly on the white sweet peas. Will hopefully get another visit so that I can get a better look and maybe a photo.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Usual nonsense this morning . Not enough drivers to do the routes.
"I'll do it, but I expect to be paid this time . I've still not been paid for the 2nd of July!!!!"
I delivered to Boscastle and Tintagel, both totally RAMMED with tourists. Why? I can't think what there is to see in either of them to warrant a journey. Hey ho.
Got back to store at 7.45 so by the time I emptied out the crates and stuff I left around 8.15. I think I'm too old for 12 hour shifts.
To make matters worse, Worzle is still in the garage so I had to walk home ( uphill almost all the way )
Got in to find 6 , increasingly panicky messages from Hubby. He thought I'd had one of my " episodes" and ended up dead in a ditch.
Can't be bothered making anything to eat so might be a shower and an early night.
My late parents had a cottage in (lower) boscastle, in the 70s/80s I tried to find it last year, but there are new properties round there.I put pics on here to see if anyone reconised it.
Sleep well Hosta. Boscastle is in the NT repertoire and Tintagel has been a tourist destination for decades. Like our local coastline, the locals know to steer clear during the season. Have you mentioned charging interest on the unpaid July 2nd?

If it wasn't so far I'd visit the SW more often...
Some of the little birds around here must have had a second brood. There were seven long-tailed tits on and around my bird cake feeder this morning, with adults stuffing the youngsters with junk food. Plenty of blue, great and coal tits too. It's a constant battle to outwit the neighbours' bird-loving cat though; every few days I stick more rose prunings in the ground under ferns, etc, to deter her. She caught a wood pigeon the other day - but they are pretty stupid, really...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Was there a more joyous sight than that men's relay team on the podium Dove?
I could force them down Clari
Your dinner sounds terrific

I drove past this beautiful old church, tucked down in the trees.
