I have just enjoyed a late lunch sitting out in the sunimage

Patio pots all need a good soak so will get the hose out

Roofer finished 15 minutes ago so fingers crossed. Will soon know as rain likely on Friday.

    Thanks, Obelixx!

Good news about the roof, Joyce - great to have a dry spell for the work, too.

    Anyone fancy a cheap church?

that is cheap. but a bit too churchy for me.

I'm having to harvest all my spuds as I think they're going to rot in the sodden compost.image

Too churchy for me too, think of the cost of maintenance! Don't care for the renovations already done either. Wonder who will buy it.

Has rained on and off all day. We've been to the tip with an old lawnmower and an ancient gas BBQ. Also been clearing up outside between the rain, putting back garden chairs and sun loungers. Washed a load of tablecloths but they aren't on the line yet.

At least the neighbours will be quiet Hosta.....image

Been nice again here today. Autumnal of course as it's August, but at least it was into double figures today - just - when I  put washing out before going to work. It got to about 18 this afternoon - perfect for me.  I had lunch outside too Joyce. Glad you got your roof done. You could test it with a hose - just to make sure  image

This is when we get our best weather normally - now and into September.  May is often good - June and July are usually poor.

    Nice little hoggy Dove image

Going to put some dinner on and go out and tackle the last slab ( or two ) and maybe the top of  the hedge where there's a few stray stems.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I always book leave in May and September - partly to avoid school holidays and partly as the weather often very pleasant.

Counting down to my Sept leave... more than ready for lazy days and bonding with the garden - oh and apple harvest. Anyone think apples are earlier this year??

Being late to the parenting game means we have been restricted to school terms since 2000 when she started in primary school.   One more year of bachelor's then 2 of Masters and we'll be free although restrictions now are more about her coming to see us rather than us going on hols.   Definitely planning to stay at home for future school and college hols.

What's already been done to that church is sacrilege.   Surely no architect involved there, just a bodger.

Got distracted sewing today and t'other pair said nothing till 9pm so threw together a quick stir fry rather than the Korean blast I'd been plotting.   Another night then.

Obelixx, that church is a listed building, believe it or not.  The chancel (with all the paintings) has to be left as it is, and now needs restoration since the rain has got in (and since the last owners decided they knew better than the authorities what they could or couldn't do with it).  I think there are few restrictions about the rest of the interior, apart from the stained glass, because it's not particularly interesting architecturally.  But I agree - it's been very much a DIY job.  image  Someone with deep pockets needs to buy it...

I did my guerrilla hacking job.  There's more light on the steps (and, incidentally, in my garden image ).  The elm branches are too high for me to reach even with my long-handled pruners, but I suspect they won't be a problem for long.  The tree is now approaching 20ft high, so I guess the Dutch elm beetle will be along to reduce it for me...

Was planning an early night but just watching an Elementary and having a decaf tea with some chocolate buttons (Aunties always have plenty of those hidden away!).

Pat - go with your instinct on Dr appointment - coughs are a difficult one to judge.

    Obelixx - Korean blast?!?!
