I have only just found this thread and now realise what I have been missing and how little I know about the insects on my allotment.

Welcome to the "Insects of the day" thread, @NewBoy2 . Don't worry about "knowing little about insects". I've always thought that the more we learn in any field of knowledge, the more we realize the vast extent of our ignorance. ;)

Still finding the odd interesting bug. No idea what this is, something close to lacewings or stoneflies maybe but it'll have to join the list of things to research when I have more time.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Do you wander round with a camera looking for bugs? They've always buggered off by the time I've found my phone.

Usually I have to run and find a camera while hoping the bug stays where I left it. I keep a bug box in the greenhouse just in case I have to catch something interesting though.

Do spiders leave their webs to shelter from the rain and then return?

Google lens is great for identifying stuff. I have no idea about most plants or insects but usually I can figure out what I'm looking at either using Lens or just searching for things like "yellow spider UK".

@B3 I think some do. I have had a couple of spiders in the same spots for months now. They sometimes disappear but seem to come back and rebuild the web every day or two. They might be reaching the end now though.

Not so many insects about in the garden at the moment. Just saw this (juvenile) Nezara viridula, southern green shield bug and took pics.

Thanks for that @Papi Jo.  I've seen a few of those recently as well as plain black and plain green ones but had no idea what the spotty one was.
