According to the BBC it is meant to be raining hard all day. I need it to rain hard. I have a rule of survival of the fittest in my planters and this lack of rain is really doing no one any favours!
Please send me your rain!
The plumbers are here currently putting radiators on to walls / servicing the boiler / creating yet more mess / slamming doors so the hound and I are tucked up in the office where I am working on a top secret project for a club I belong too.
Or at least I'm meant to be. I've hit that stage where I know what I need to do: I just need input from other people and we all know how hard it is to get that when everyone is so busy.
I'm off to collect my new car wheels this afternoon: then get the car deep cleaned ready for my job. I think looking at the fur there is half a dog in there! (I do clean it often I swear!) All my shirts are ironed ready to look smart (bit of a shocker after wearing a t shirt and more casual attire for the museum) I might even polish my shoes up in a bit before I make a chilli con carne or super.
We have Proper Rain. It's gentle but persistent, with even a bit running down the edge of the road. The water butt will be filled by the end of the day, and the veg are looking perky already.
The only fly in the ointment is that it's OH's birthday, and we'd planned a day out in the Forest of Bowland, with lunch in a nice pub. The outing has been postponed until the sun returns...
Clari, enjoy your single day of unemployment! At least you now have a working house to sit in...
BL, hope your channel crossing is uneventful and you soon get to meet the new arrival. 29 is a bit hot for May, I reckon.
Chicky, hope your Dad is comfortable and on the mend. I second your wishes for next week's weather for Chelsea. Last year I managed to go on the one cold day... this year I'm bringing my gloves!
Punkdoc, maybe people will take pity on you, canvassing in the rain, and actually talk to you. I'm debating whether to go to the next town this afternoon to hear one of the leaders speak... but I'm too short to see over the crowds, and it's raining... perhaps I'll watch on the local news instead...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I've just been out in the drizzle and planted the lavender and verbascums I bought at the weekend, watered them in and chucked some chicken manure pellets around ... hopefully the rain will settle them in nicely ... hope it's not too strong tho' ... they're just coming into flower ...
Those of a squeamish disposition ... stop reading here ...
I've had an infection in the cartilage of my outer ear since the middle of last week ... first it was just red and sore, but by Thursday afternoon it was developing white blistery spots ... then these got bigger and looked and the ear was throbbing ... the pharmacist said it needed antibiotics and steroids which needed to be prescribed by a nurse ... our GP practice has an early morning surgery on Sats and Suns and I thought about going along or even going to the Walk In Centre, but I had made a commitment to be elsewhere and I thought that maybe the NHS had enough on its mind at the weekend so I took soluble aspirin as an anti-inflammatory and put antiseptic cream on it over the weekend thinking I would phone the GP today if it was no better. Today although the white spots of pus have formed into a couple of bigger blisters, the swelling and redness around the rest of the ear has gone down and the throbbing has stopped ... I'm pretty certain that it's over the worst now and in a couple of days it will have gone. Glad my body still seems able to fight off some bugs on its own
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Oh Dove that sounds awful! (The ear not the chicken manure). Do keep a careful watch over it even if it does seem to be sorting itself out with your TLC so far. Ears have such a tendency to go from irritating to dramatic very quickly.
Thanks for your concern folks It really has improved a great deal ... there's never been any pain in the inner ear (although there have been some odd sensations in the scalp behind the ear). It is definitely on the mend ... and if it suddenly turned alarming, we're almost within shouting distance of the big hospital - certainly only an £8 taxi ride.
It's amazing what you can do when you can't get out into the garden ....... this morning I've made a big pot of mushroom soup for lunch and OH's favourite Cardamom cake for whenever

It's ok BL ((hugs)) ... it's not in the ear canal ... just in the flappy cartilage bit ... the bit where punks used to stick their safety pins ... if it was 'inside' I'd be off to the GP like a shot ... I know what that can be like
Have a good trip home I like car ferries ... it always feels like an adventure, even tho' I'm the world's worst sailor and often feel very queasy on board.

Busy - that sounds like a plan to avoid the M25 and M20.
Warm here now. Will need a sleeveless t-shirt for this pm's exertions. Painting done. Toms and squashes moved out, pots watered, lunch eaten and doings cooking for one of our favourite vegetarian dinners tonight. Good day so far.
Hope yours is too.

Weather dull and grey here with the odd shower so no gardening. Had a walk round and the first of my bearded irises has flowered and clematis Nelly Moser is just opening.

Years ago, or even in some cases now, you would have had a leach on that ear????
Thanks for your concern folks

Do be careful, Dove, my daughter lost 60% of her hearing in one ear because the doc wouldn't give her antibiotics.
Obelixx, it's an overnight ferry from Portsmouth.

Sounds unpleasant Dove. Keep an eye on it!

Afternoon all,
Weather dull and grey here with the odd shower so no gardening. Had a walk round and the first of my bearded irises has flowered and clematis Nelly Moser is just opening.
Dove hope the ear carries on improving.
Clari good luck with the new job tomorrow.
Have a safe trip home BL.
Sorry if I've missed any other important news.
