Hope this isn't cheating... this is the "welcome" jar of flowers provided by the elderly couple who rented us their summer cottage in Finland last week.  It's on the table on the balcony, and you can see the lake reflected in the window (and the intriguing door handle, made by the owner).

There's grape hyacinth in there - they were having frosts into the first week of June so everything was still very spring-like.  image

It was, Lizzie.  They were such a lovely couple - he's 87, a bit frail now after a career in the UN Peacekeeping Force in which he was decorated for bravery.  His wife's a bit younger, maybe late 70s, and is an artist and potter, who speaks only Finnish.  He speaks Finnish, Swedish, English, German and Spanish, though he's very deaf.  When we called in to pay the bill, they sat us down for a chat and gave us coffee, ice cream and cake, and on our first visit two years ago they showed us round their beautiful 200-year-old farmhouse, and produced all the family photo albums...  We'll definitely be back.  image

imageThis is my first attempt to post a photo to the forum.  I've tried three times, reducing the size each time, and all I get is a little black square with a cross in it.  Does this mean it's successfully posted, or not?  I don't know whether I'm doing it wrong, or it's still too big, or the system is having another of its tantrums.  And Oswald is so eager to show everyone his collection of lawn weeds. I'll try again after dinner.
