  • Had not noticed the ignore feature Hostafan, very useful. Don't worry, I'm not going to be deterred from using the forum over a couple of uninformed comments, it can be a fantastic source of information for a relatively young gardener who's peers aren't bitten by the gardening bug yet. Instagram is a brilliant support tool to a website like this allowing gardeners to see more of the design aspects of other gardens in support of the practical advice given on here. ✌?❤️

Is it just photos Matt, or is there extra info for you as well ? And is it all private gardens?

I've never used it - or even looked - so I know nuffink. image  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

If you can take a photo of it, you'll more than likely find it on Instagram. Private and public gardens. Sometimes just photos, sometimes a bit of information or links to a website.

Here is an example of one that I like to follow https://www.instagram.com/arnemaynardgardendesign/?hl=en

Out of curiosity I asked my Daughter about instagram, she brought it up on her phone and to my horror a picture of me and my Grandchildren came up. I was not best pleased. It appears another of my Daughters not seeing the danger had set the site up. It was supposed to be private yet second Daughter got on her phone in seconds. Instructions have gone down the line to wipe the photo's ASAP   . And any others of the Grandchildren.

I understand each and every comment in this discussion, but here is something I see which in my mind is worse and should not be accessible to just anyone .

Have you ever keyed your name into search . ?

A friend told me that anyone at all can find out your details , it's on the web.,Not believing I tried it out .I was shocked to find I could pull up not only my full name age etc but my address and who lived with me,the names of my children too . On further searching I could probably find out my life's history .

Now that , I do see as wrong.  We cannot have it removed  I've enquired.

Granma - are you talking about the information that's on the Electoral Register?  That information is on public record and as such is available to everyone (advertisers/marketing companies etc) unless you choose to opt out of the 'Open Register' .

As I was previously employed in social work I have always chosen to opt out of the 'Open Register'.

More information and how to do it is here https://www.gov.uk/electoral-register/opt-out-of-the-open-register

I've just checked myself on 192.com. It's about 20 years out of date!

    Thanks Dove

,kitty I will unsbscribe too! , I object to my details being on the web I can't see why they should be........

Or maybe I'm missing the point. It's just that if I want people to know about me I prefer to tell them myself

And Will B.   I will check myself out on that one too ..  might make good bedtime reading! Though I doubt it!!!

Don't go getting yourself in a tizz about it granma.

Names and addresses on the electoral register get used to send out junkmail, the phone book listings for cold calling and email addresses for spam advertising all the time.

Lots of it is purely done for a commercial interest and nothing truly sinister. You just have to be a bit savvy about who has access to your personal information, eg. don't give out your details to strangers on the internet image
