May Day celebrations go back to traditional spring celebrations with dancing around the Maypole etc Pat, and then with the rise of the socialist movement and trades unions  it was the day chosen to celebrate that too, so you can take you pick and celebrate one or both image

Right you greedy lot ......... I've made two lemon meringue pies so there's plenty for all of you, and it's a big 5lb chicken so the more the merrier.  If son and at least some of you don't turn up we'll be eating chicken all week!

Sitting down at 6pm so you'll have time to do some gardening too .......... volunteers to mow my grass get pigs in blankets too image

Ok, thanks Dove. We do have a holiday on October used to be called 8 hour Day, but I think it's now called Labor Day.  Same sort of thing.

We are a bit immersed in Britains X Factor final. - it's between Matt and the girl from Finland (Sara). Don't tell me,     it's almost there.

Sorry Dove.  No grass cutting or any other noisy stuff after midday on Sundays and holidays.   Ours is a big bird too. OH and I like the leg best and then I use the breast meat to make Coronation chicken for salad or baguette lunches.  Might make a pastilla this time as I have some filo in the fridge.

We have proper rain!!   Yippee!   Squally winds now too so I'm staying tucked up for a while with a bacon butty for lunch and then we'll see about the plant fair or not.   Going to one tomorrow too with OH to carry bags too so not critical if I miss today.

I believe Oz has a Labour Day holiday but it varies across the Territories.  Some do it in March but NT and Queensland so it on May 1st.

    Popped home for lunch.

LP no, I don't remove the flowers. A. I've got too many. B. I'm too lazy, and C. the bees love them.

The old flower stems are useful pointers where the plants are over the winter.

Rain. I'll take it though because the garden needs a good soak.

I've just cleaned the oven and hob so a bit reluctant to roast my chicken now - I suppose I could nip round to Dove's with a plate ?

My garden and I live in South Wales.
