I've ordered some of these, they killed one of my fuchsias this year. When do the grubs grow into adults? I hope I'm not too late, I'm guessing they'll be early this year because of the mild weather. I've got some pots that I've only just planted, is it worth treating these too?

I'm trusting you all when you say they work, I'm a bit sceptical because a lot of people seem to say they're not very effective.

They are effective, the adults are out now, you will see chunks bitten off the sides of your leaves, you can usually find them, they only walk, they don't fly. Look down the sides of the pots or underneath, they are still during the day, active at nights.

you can use the nematodes now to catch any that are still in grub stage then top up again in the autumn as the grubs stay in the compost all winter.

They are cheaper on Amazon, only £11.15, with postage. The other site charge 3.99 for postage, standard fixed rate.

I paid £9.49 from the gardening naturally site that bee witched kindly posted, it says free postage if you only buy nematodes. I'm going to buy more in autumn because I have a lot more pots this year.

I've never managed to spot the adults, I know they're there because I can see the leaf damage, but they must be excellent at hiding! The grubs are there though for definite, I just squashed 3 of them!

Great find, Bee...when I bought mine from amazon the other week they cost £12.99, so £9.49 delivered is an absolute bargain.

  • Meant to ask, if buying the slug and vine weevil one, how far apart do I need to space the applications? If doing it on the same plants.
