You often don't know you've got them until the plant looks poorly and falls over. They especially like plants in pots, particularly strawberries, heucheras, primulas & cyclamen, though they have a go at most things... the adult weevils chew notches out of leaves but it's the grubs which kill stuff.
You can buy a natural vine weevil killer - nematodes which you mix up and water on. I use it every spring and autumn.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I've had a look on amazon there is one for vine weevils and one for slugs but it covers more for the slugs is there a need to buy separate ones? Or is there a better place than amazon to buy them?
You have to buy the one for Vine Weevil. Usually you only put it on your tubs or special plants that you know will suffer, whereas the slug ones you have to put everwhere, so it doesn't work out anymore expensive in the long run.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Hi FlowerNewbie,
The little terrors eat the roots of plants.

I have used thone nematodes and can vouch for them, they do work.
I Might get that then, I have a lot of strawberry plants haha.
Another vote for Nematodes, I treated my pots and beds last week when I found the vw grub and I'll be doing them again in May just to make sure.

And here's a plea not to buy the chemical treatment instead. It's cheaper than the nematodes, but seriously damaging to bees.
Hi Folks,
The cheapest place I've found for slug nematodes is here ... the P&P is free ... some of the Amazon ones aren't.
