I hate vine weevils!

Even after treating all my pots last year the little b*****rs are still in nearly all the pots!!

Sorry but just feeling a bit cheesed off!!

Try going through over 400 Auricula pots looking for infestation. I did that a few weeks back and I am about to do it all over again.

  • Hi gardeners, you seem to be up on the knowledge of vine weevils. Can you tell me if these are they. They we're living in a bag of 6 X manure. Hopefully they are maggots. Thanksimage

You are safe, those are indeed maggots of some fly (might even be a goodie) and not vine weevil grubs, which have a distinctive C shape when disturbed like that.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thanks Bob, that's  a relief because I have put a hand full in every pot of bulbs to flower in the summer.i only saw them when it was too late.

Vine weevil  grubs  are cream in colour and have a distinguishable Orange spot at one end   .once seen never forgotten.

  • What are vine weevil (sorry I'm a newb to all this) by this description I think I found some whilst repotting my strawberries at the weekend.

I had to go through all my strawberry plants, loads of them, they like strawberries. They are the only thing I cannot touch with bare hands, they come out of the soil so clean and smug looking?

Here's one of mine, picture gives a good view of what the head end looks like.

  • What do they do? Do they destroy the plants? Definitely looks like the ones I found.
