I thought he meant just keep from drying out I'm due to pot up my new tubers this weekend, I will put in 5 liter plastic pots with multi purpose compost, will water then leave in sheltered spot down the side of the house. I won't water until they need it. I'm in south bucks and this has worked for me past couple of years
Carol Klein was showing off the wonderful world of daffodils last night, when finished the flowering stem should be taken off at the base, does anyone know if that goes for hyacinths as well. Love the program it's the highlight of the week, can't wait for the hour long one.
I haven't seen it Valerie - but usually a flowering stem of any kind looks better taken off at the base.
I think it would be hard not to with hyacinths anyway - they're usually quite short stemmed aren't they? They'd probably look a bit odd if just a little stalk was left.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thought it was an excellent episode last night, Dahlias are how I'll be doing them but I normally wait until the beginning of April, some great shots of long meadow. The Carol Klein bit with daffodils was really good, I hope she does a feature each week. The only bit I don't like is the weather. I know they brought it in last year for the 1 hour shows but to me its a waste of gardening tv in a 30 minute episode.

Just watched it, lovely goldies,
Nigel and Nelli and of course Monty.
Got to take mine out in a minute. Looks like it's going to rain.

Yes Valerie, take the stalk off so it doesn't use all it's energy by producing seed, it will go to make next years flower. Same with all bulbs.
