Johnny and Aym.   Had rats once so I never put bird food on the ground.

Aym, the rat problem originated at a school up the road. . . kids dropping food in the grounds which back down to the wood and river behind us.  The council laid bait in our gardens and said to avoid putting bird food on the ground.  No problem for ten years.

All these are gone now, from the back right to left, bramble, Logan, moss, in front from left willow and bracken. Moss had a tumour in the front of his mouth, had to have it removed, that's why his tongue is sticking out.

B'sMum. not slugs.  I usually put the pots of tulips into the cold frame until the leaves are a few inches high but thought I' d save myself the effort this year.   Wrong decision.image

I'm so sorry Joyce, I know it's heart breaking but hopefully your second layer will come through.  I don't like the thought of killing mice image maybe you could leave them a little dish of seed and they will leave your bulbs alone image

B'sMum, last year, when sitting outside, I watched a mouse snap the head of an antirrhinum and scuttle off with it.   I had been blaming the squirrels!!!   It has to be live and let live. Everything has it's placeimage
