    It’s good stuff but if you’re budget is slightly more limited the supermarket own brand cat biscuits are great - try to provide enough that some is left over in the morning.

    You could also mix a few biscuits with the wet as the biscuits help to naturally clean their back teeth like a regular diet  :)

    Thanks for all the affirmations regarding Spikes.  We find dry hog food easier to use than smelly, meaty cat food which the local cats and perhaps rodents are also attracted to. We have a bowl of water close by too. Our field grass was cut today and sadly we found two dead hogs in the cuttings - I am very upset - is this the norm when large vehicles work in the fields? No wonder the hog population is on the decline, old time farming methods may not be practical in this day with increased wages etc. but we can't expect to keep up the numbers of these delightful little creatures if we don't respect their habitats can we?

    That is very sad. Do you know the farmer?

    Watched Garden Rescue with Charlie Dimmock this afternoon, lots of hints and tips on making a garden hedgehog friendly.

    No we don't Fire.  It wasn't our regular farmer, but instead a contractor who is preparing our and another field owners property for perennial wild flower seed sowing.  Hopefully once the seeds are sown we will notice a huge increase in wildlife (well that is the theory) in the field.
  • Hedgehog behaviour was in question this morning with a neighbour.  Like us, they have a dominating (male), who pushes the other hogs around at the feeding bowl.  Some of them run away when he appears.  Is this normal behaviour at this time of year and I have read that female hogs aren't ready to mate until they are 2 or 3 years old, is this so?  Would they mate with their sisters or mother or do they leave their birth territory to find unrelated hogs?

    Hedgehog is back! After a disappearance of a few weeks, the hedgehog is back!

    Tucking into the special hedgehog biscuits with abandon, like it's not eaten a proper meal for ages. This is also why I've been keeping a tray of water topped up for it - just in case.

    So happy, just wanted to share.
  • So pleased for you and your hhog Anna, they are such lovely creatures and I am always pleased when ours turn up for their evening meal too.

    I have never seen a live hedgehog, I've only ever seen road kill, and pictures.  I would love to have one visit but we all have concrete walls so I don't think it's ever going to happen.

    Hello all, sorry I have been absent still struggling with this illness.

    I'm not 100% sure GD so don't wish to speculate and to give you the wrong answer, you could ring or e-mail the BHPS though :)

    Glad to hear lots of hogs are about, mine have disappeared but will be reinstating the infrared night cam soon to double check.

    @Mary370 What about garden gates?
