Sometimes they only take a few biscuits, others most of the plate has gone @WonkyWomble . At the beginning of summer there were more slugs than usual, now I'm hardly seeing one. Snails I hardly ever see. Isn't wildlife grand, just wish the sparrows were doing a better job of the blackfly.🙄
Sparrows! I have hundreds of them!!! So many that a sparrowhawk makes a regular flyby and I'm in the centre of Ipswich! It's only a small garden! But I let nature run the place, I just help out! I don't use anything that kills in the garden...pellets and spray etc... but if they kill or eat each other it's out of my hands!
My sparrowhawk is female, so doesn't bother with sparrows, she goes after the wood pigeon, and has had quite a few @WonkyWomble I must say that the ladybird and hoverfly populations have boomed too, but still not enough to keep up
I think mine is male as he's smaller. We have plenty of town pigeon but not that many wood. There is even a stray cat that lives in the shed along side the hedgehogs. The hogs have a propper box as well but there seem to be so many that they have different areas of the shed too. They get along with the cat just ignore each other. It's a very large shed, Enough food for all. The cat finds the frogs more interesting!
Haha @Purpleallium glad to hear that! I have a toad in mine and thought that unusual but like you say it's great pest control!!! He's found a tunnel so he can get in and out!
For the last few mornings i've spotted a large hedgehog scurrying through the undergrowth in my garden with a mouthful of mahonia leaves.Surely it's too early to be gathering leaves for hibernation and too late to be having babies?
According to the experts @Klink babies are still possible. The problem is they won't make the weight before winter, so you may have to resort to catching little ones early winter to take to a rescue. I did and luckily my little male survived ( lockdown ment he couldn't come home) but he was released in a hog friendly area. 😁
Ah,i'll keep an eye out for them then. I already have a very small hedgehog that i've had to intercept several times mid afternoon and place back up the garden with a handful of food to keep it company.I live near a busy road so worry it won't live very long if it goes wandering at that time of day!

My resident frog lives in the greenhouse , has done for three years now does a good job of keeping the slugs down.
Mine often come for water rather than food, even at night
