  • We are doing an island hedgehog count tonight.  We have had 4 here recently - will they show themselves tonight.  My lucky neighbour had 7 in her garden recently.  No newborns yet.

Just as we went down, ( so glad to be back talking) I had a call from the rescue that has Apple. He survived the winter in their care and has been released locally ( due to covid) It is a pity we couldn't fetch him back, but it is an hour away and run by an 80yo. Never mind. I have said that next March I will go and fetch another hog to introduce into the population to help with the genetic diversity. 😁

Just to cheer you up if you need it, a photo of one of the latest arrivals to my local rescue

And Mother and baby caught on camera in my mother in law's garden a few night's ago. They have been turning up for around a week now.

One from my local rescue being treated for ringworm which has caused her to lose her fur. Look at that tummy  <3

We now have up to three hogs at a time - and two hoglets as well.  Lovely to see them - they always bring a smile to my face.

A hedgehog has appeared again in my garden at about 9.30pm. It came in by the gap I cut into the fence a couple of years ago.

It was in the undergrowth of shrubs and I popped indoors for some dishes for water and cat food. It used to be cat food we were told to feed them, it certainly enjoyed it and I got a nice video on the trail cam. But, is it now considered wrong to feed the?

He/she was a decent size it seems. Should I stop the cat food?

@Bijdezee , I have asked this question of my local rescue lady before, and her answer was that it is fine. There is a whole network of rescues in this area, and that is their take on it.
If you feel uncomfortable doing it, then just make sure that there is a dish of water each night  :)

I had a new young visitor last night who got a bit confused when it came to finding the feeding station entrance (although he(?) was successful in the end).

Later in the night, 2 adults turned up, although only one actually got any food !
