After saying we have a baby, last night we had four! Never seen babies before so hopefully it means it's been a good breeding year.๐๐๐ Will have to put the camera out in a new position to try to catch them.๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ
Interesting comments about what consitutes an "underweight" hedgehog....

First a 178g little boy -ย he is very underweight and has an injury to the nose which is bleeding, he was found on the road next to a high verge so we think he fell. He is currently in intensive can and has received fluids and pain relief
Then came a little girl who is also underweight at 269g, she was very cold on arrival and is in the incubator, once warm enough she has been given fluids but at the last check a momentย ago sheย isnโt looking good.
In these cases when I say underweight I am referring to the fact that they should be a lot larger and have lost weight, the main way of telling this is that their spines should sit outside their fur but in both cases the fur is longer, so there is little fat content in the body to give them the round ball shape, they are both rugby ball shaped.
The group of babies haven't been back yet. The single baby, which is a little bigger than them, is here all night. Arrives about 9pm and keeps coming till 5am, so can't be bedding down far away, but not in my hog house.๐
Oh poor little creatures, I do hope they manage to pull through @AnniD although I realize they will probably not be released now until the Spring if they survive.ย I am keeping a watchful eye on two youngsters that showed up at the food bowl around 10 days ago.ย So far so good.ย We have taken so many to the rescue centre this year for one reason or another, so fingers crossed this couple can make it through on their own.
@Guernsey Donkey2, l thought the explanation of them being underweight, particularly regarding the spines, was very interesting. I think you can see it quite clearly in the second photo of the little girl. Poor little thing does look very ill to my inexperienced eyes.
This was last nights visitors. Not great photos as taken with my phone. The one outside the box is the every night baby, the one in the box and smaller appears to be one of the four babies from the other night. After having a feed the big one went to the end of the garden and went inside my hog house ๐๐๐ first time I've seen one, and stayed in there๐๐๐
