  • That's good to hear they are thriving with you. Still too cold here -1 at night so no sign yet.

Went to open the blow away this morning....Hog poop on the path yeay!
I felt guilty I was still putting a small amount of biscuits in the crate dish, but left them for longer than I should, forgotten about. They are surprisingly clean and dry. They tend to swell up if damp. Probably not very fresh or appetizing though.
The hog had routed through them.

Will clean the dish out shortly with fresh in for tonight.

The poop was two pieces one a bit darker than the other. Largish normal hog diameter but short. Slugs and worms are around so other edible bugs and things too I guess with warmer temperatures.

I shall have to keep an eye out - although the days have been pretty warm, the nights are chilly. The joys of noisy hedgehog courtship @Guernsey Donkey2  :)

Sorry Guernsey Donkey2 how exciting, sorry I did not see your post came in via search to this page in a rush. Nothing like free entertainment :D

Went out to clean their dish before I forgot. It is right outside the back door so we hear them too if we are in the kitchen.

Hope yours come back soon too though it sounds chillier up there @purplerallim.

When l visited my local hedgehog rescue lady earlier this week, she was going out to take photos of netting that had been put over hedges by housing developers. As well as stopping birds nesting and them possibly getting trapped, it is also a danger to hedgehogs and other wildlife. Link to the BBC news story here

There is also a government petition, signatures have shot up over the last few days. Please sign if you can

    Many thanks  :)

Our visitor(s) are back which is great. Not sure rescue Dudley is as happy though. Crazy hound.

The hedgehog is back nightly now, but not until early hours of the morning. Know it's coming as little deposits are to be seen around garden. From eating a plate full of hog food, in last two weeks down to half as much a night so must be getting wild food too now. Go hoggie get those slugs!

Sad tale to tell. Found small hog wandering in garden this morning, thought it had been disturbed by neighbour's building of shed, but when I got closer saw it looked very like the one we found under the car on Christmas eve. Gathered it up and put it in hog house as we were on our way out . An hour later returned to find hog on patio passed away. In both cases lethargic hogs with half closed eyes with white bits in them( fly eggs?) not very big, even though this is three months later, and not the hog we see feeding at night usually. What I find odd is surely this can't be last years young as too small to survive winter, but too early for this years young!

I think that hedgehogs were having very late babies last year due to the very mild weather, our rescue has loads over winter. They're just not big enough to cope and as this winter has been comparatively mild, they are waking up. Do you have a rescue nearby just in case any more turn up? Fly strike on hedgehogs is horrible, and l think even a rescue would have struggled to save it.
