They had a dreadful time in the flooding,T'bird. It's a really beautiful place - been there many times. The river was right up to the bridge in Ballater, at the eastern end. The little caravan site on the banks down below it was completely destroyed.
You'll have driven on the new bit of road too. They had to quickly create it as it disappeared completely into the river, and the bridges were all down. There isn't anywhere to divert traffic, other than through the estate, which wouldn't have been feasible long term. Abergeldie Castle survived ( just past Balmoral Castle and Crathie etc ) although it was touch and go whether it would be swept away along the Dee
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Wonky has been out scouring the streets, climbing neighbours' 8 ft walls and searching their sheds ... Then she got home to find Flatters waiting for her by his food bowl and asking for two days worth of supper.
Wonky thanks you for your kind thoughts and assures me that she is now breathing again ... She says you're all special lovely people ((hugs))
G&Ts all round on me
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
They're surrounded by main roads the river and the railway line so lots of hazards, but I reckon he was lurking in a snug corner somewhere until he heard her calling him ...

Just reading-up on the predicted gales/storm... hope the tree surgeon can finish tomorrow as wouldn't fancy being on the ladders and platforms in Storm Doris!
Can't even speak about the Footballer's fine - too annoyed...
I remember you saying your MIL lives there doc. It's hard enough living there without that to deal with. I can't decide whether to move up there or the west side when I retire. Aboyne, slightly further east, is also lovely. So many beautiful places to choose from
The old Cockbridge to Tomintoul road was pretty hairy at the weekend apparently. Not been as bad as most winters though. We always know winter's arrived when they first announce it as being closed due to snow
Blowing a hoolie here, at the back, where it's in the line of fire. Like one of those sound effects they use for haunted houses

Yes....their stomachs bring the wanderers home ( Animal and human)
...since you're offering Dove - t'would be rude to say no.
Glad he's home safe & sound - I suspect Flatters is quite a tough cookie

Love Ballater.
MIL lives there and just avoided the floods. It looked fairly depressing when I was up in Summer.
I know the campsite in Braemar as well. It always seems to be the coldest place in Britain. I have known it bellow freezing even in Summer.

Happy February all! Spring is next!

I'll stick with my tea thanks, Dove
Glad all is well.

Totally pee'd off ... Head congested, nose dripping, chest tight and the cough has returned. Someone warned me there was a second phase ...

Oh bother, Dove, had been feeling jealous that you'd recovered so quickly! Hope it doesn't last too long this time.
Glad Flatters has returned. He may have already dined at another cat's place though.
Forecast is for gales and rain here too.
