Aym280, my soil was pretty solid clay and chalk. I have added a lot of homemade compost, grit and wood bark over the years so it's rich and drains better but is still quite moist. Do you think the delphinium would be better in a pot? I don't want to love it to death, but slugs are prolific in my garden. I even found a snail on it this morning despite being kept temporarily in the porch!
Natbat - that's my local garden centre too! Literally round the corner! Was not expecting to see that name crop up on here! Think you must have snapped up all the best bargains though - was up there earlier today and there were a few things things I was tempted with, but sadly I don't have room for too much else in the garden so am trying to make an effort to limit myself. Got a few good things at the end of last year, though - still doing well are the 2l bergamot and the 2l physostegia that looked almost dead.
Just wanted to to say hello to a fellow Mayberry's customer, and congrats for your bargain hunting skills!
Bakker also have a sale on bulbs and have free p&p
Natbat, Sarah raven do copper rings to go around the Base of the plant, or you can get mini copper fence looking stuff in various places. This conducts electricity and essentially makes then electric shock themselves whenever they touch it.
Anna, I try and limit myself but then I do silly things like starting threads on deals
Hope I'm not bothering anyone keeping this thread alive.
Wenthe into Lidl today, they had some good seeds in. 5 for £1/2/3 depending on the seeds (priced by number) including good flowers and veg. I'm thinking of getting some more snapdragons.

I'm sure the snail was loving the porch more than the delphinium. I'd put it outside. both of them.
