Popped into wilko yesterday and picked up my seed compost, Growsure 20l for £3. They also had John Innes seed compost £2 for a 10litre bag. I've successfully used Growsure for a number of years so stuck with that one. Bought all my seeds in the 10p sale last year, hoping to start some chillies this weekend (first go in a heated propagator).

They had small clematis and shrubs (azalea, photina, camellia etc) for £3 each. I resisted temptation and just looked.

I will be interested to see what lidl has to offer this year. Lots of you posted about the £1.77 clematis bargains in 2016. I don't have a store close by and would have to cadge a lift or go on the bus.  Hoping to hear feedback from lidl shoppers on performance of last years bargains, and what's on offer this season.

we have a B&M store opening in Bude next week. It has a garden centre but I've never been in one of their stores. Are they like Home Bargains? Does anyone know?

    Devon.

I  did the same buying a heap of seeds in the 10p sale, including the Johnsons ones!

Not sure about the clematis, but a lot of the stuff Lidl has seems to be quite good. It won't be a feature plant or anything showstoppers, like you would get for 6 tones the price from a proper breeder or anything, but for filling up borders or whatever I think they have great value for what you get.

The B&M store near me is very similar to home bargains, but they have more house items and mine has a garden centre with a few plants - usually trays and trays of pansies and some little potted conifers- and then sheds, benches and the like as well as stones/gravel, fences. I do find them really good for compost though, for the price it seems a decent enough quality.

We have a B&M and a Home Bargains Hosta, they are very similar in price and product range.  Neither of my local branches has much in the way of plants, more bags of bulbs and bare roots in cardboard boxes like the pound shop.

I've got stuff like chicken wire on a roll, and tomato food at a good price from B&M in the past.  Some of the garden ornaments are deliciously kitschimageimage

Thanks Tigrah. I might pop over and have a look.

I bought a fabulous Hydrangea vanille fraise from Home Bargains last year for £4.99. I know what you mean about range, you have to have a rummage and see if anything takes your fancy.

    Devon.

Good call Tigrah, I forgot about the MPC. 3 for £10 on the 70l bags last year I think.

Nice and dark and crumbly, I use it in my annual planters. Good price on grow bags and bark as well.  Hope the quality is as good this year.

All climbers (in 2L and 3L pots) have been reduced to £3 in my local Wyevale.  I bought a Grape (Pinot Blanc)  and a clematis.

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

Went over to B&M this morning, they gabe some great deals on planter pots and canes and what not, have to go back when I've got the car!

Also found a nice looking deal on T&Monday 12 foxglove plants for 9.99. Some really nice looking plants and they should self seed too - although they may be strange hybrids of the mix, I suppose!

Edit: b&m also had a 120l bag of compost, I think with added vermiculite/perlite for 8.99 or 2 for 15 that in going to get in a drier day to fill the veg trug. I also like to get an extra bag to stock up for all the piss or extra plants I buy thriving the year. They also gabe some nice barrel planters, wagon wheels (wooden, not chocolate) and some other little decorations. I'm spending too much already, I've not even been able to get into the garden yet!

    See original post

£3 sounds great!  I've been looking for a clematis for my mum to replace the old, half dead one on the front of her house.

My local Mayberry Garden Centre has loads of plants reduced from 1.99 to 20p, 2.99 to 50p or 99p, 7.99 to 2.99 etc. They're generally very good quality and I will be potting them on to take advantage. I would love to buy some of the larger plants but mostly stuck to cheap and chearful.

I have been three times to pick up bargains.

Flower wise I bought a 2 litre pot of blue drumstick primula, which I took root cuttings from (my first time trying!) and then separated the plants into four pots, all being well I will have a very large amount to plant out.

I also picked up from 2.99 to 50p a 1litre blue delphinium (having never tried to grow them before I thought I would start with one to test slugs) and three 1 litre pots of yellow and white garden mums, and a lavender to keep up the blue theme.

Edibleness I picked up Rungia Klossii Champii (mushroom plant) for 99p in an attempt to add some mushroom taste to my cooking as my partner is allergic, pineapple mint, oregano, marjoram, sage and 2 x bergamot.

    I mostly took advantage of their 20p offers, 2 x bloody sorrel, 5 x garlic chives, 1 catmint, 2 x sedums.

I've probably missed something off but I know my last trip came to £3.18 for 8 plants and will be filling out my new boarders nicely!
