Did not like the brickyard at all, typical though all the changes of mind and little idea of the cost, I would have been sorting that lady out very quickly.See original post
What do you mean? The contractor isn't going to 'sort her out' as he will be making money from every change she makes. It's not up to Monty either to say she can't do this or that. Her husband didn't seem in the least bothered about the cost.
I'm sure we'd all like our gardens to be welcoming for any big family event and it is entirety up to her and her husband as to how they spent their money and how much.
The problem for us is that being a community of people interested in plants and their care and how to use them well it's galling to see so much spent for such a poor outcome. Each to their own though.

Kt, I meant the husband who seemed to have little interest in the proceedings apart from when asked how much. She made a guess his comment you have no idea. My late wife would have known down to the last six pence. I am with Obelix, it could have been better spent, £25,000 would have got them a lovely country house wedding and still left enough for a nice garden makeover. I ask how long will they want a garden full of bricks and as some one else said how do you sell the house now.
Wonder what happened to those make over gardens years ago with huge boilerplate sections, corrogated iron and wire plus some massive concrete walls if I remember correctly, it would cost a fortune to break them up, Dynamite comes to mind.
I suppose for the BBC it's too late to back out once filming has started. The initial ideas may seem perfectly OK, but then again as Muddle-Up says, it's their money. I'm sure that if we saw each other's gardens there would be elements we liked along with those we loathed.
"The money could be better spent on xyz" is entirely a matter of opinion. Not picking on Palaisglide, it's just the only specific suggestion made, but I can't think of anything worse than blowing 10's of thousands of pounds on a wedding. That money could better be spent on the deposit for a house, but that's just my opinion.
I think last week's programme was an object lessons in what you can achieve with a vision backed up with determination, inventiveness and team work as well as what happens when you don't have a real plan or financial discipline.
In the end, both pairs got what they wanted which is good, no matter what we think of the end results or the money spent.

KT53 -I don't notice much input from the couple apart from ££££s. To me, she wanted a vanity "stage set" for her silver wedding guests.
I like to see those involved putting in a bit of personal effort which I thought was the idea of the programme.

Frank.
That brickwork looked just too twee for my liking. I am surprised there were no gnomes .
'You must have some bread with it me duck!'
I liked it, when all the plants were put in place.

I agree entirely.
