The 'folly garden' cost about £25k according to long suffering hubby.  If that's how they want to spend their money then good luck to them.  Complete remodelling of my own garden probably hasn't cost much less than that over the years, although it is a lot bigger than theirs.

The allotment garden was inspirational.  The amount of work and dedication was amazing.

The £25k couple weren't gardeners so I doubt if the garden will progress or be well maintained whereas the father and daughter with their volunteers put a lot of thought and effort into what they were doing.....and doing it on a pittance.

I  think the lady may have caught the gardening bug now, so hopefully it will stay maintained. A lot of money, but if you have it to spend and that's what you feel you will enjoy it on, then why not? I would probably spend that if I could afford to, haha. Although, affording it depends on your priorities, I suppose.

Either way, really enjoyed the show, already waiting for more.

That allotment garden looked lovely, and was good to see the opposite side of things where, along with all the volunteers, using manual labour, time and doing everything yourselves allows you to do it for much cheaper. Lovely cause and people, too.

Right! hands up everyone who thinks it was £25,000 well spent.

I'm sure each and every one of us could have achieved a lot more with that sort of money if we had to spend it in our own gardens.

    Devon.
  • It's not what I would choose to spend £25,000 on - apart from the 'ruin' itself, that paving looked expensive and totally incongruous, and I hadn't realised that type of paving was part of the plan - and all the changes of mind must have cost a lot too - but the owners seemed happy with the end result, even if Monty looked a bit bemused.

Plenty of people spend more than that on a car ................ it takes all sorts I suppose image

I have to agree there. Probably could have saved herself a lot of money just by giving it some thought and making her mind up on the first design. I'm sure those builders must have charged her for wasting their time with the first 7 ideas.

  • My ex was a builder - he made a lot of money from people changing their minds ... also from the phrase, '... while you're here could you just .......' image

    Very true Dove.

I'd think if I took every car and van I've ever bought in my life, they'd not add up to £25K.

I once had a client who had 3, yes 3 Maclaren F1s As Fairy was say " tw*t"

Rowan Atkinson  sold his for £8 million.

The thing I wonder as well is they were working in a time frame for the show. Meaning you have to pay more for an "instant" garden. I wonder how much it would have cost if given, say, a year to do it in.
