Fab pots, BL.  I'm sure your Open Garden will be a triumph!  image

I have serious Roscoea envy, Fidget...  though I'm a bit concerned about the winter wet problem.  Maybe they're better in the ground?

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Californian Poppy aka Eschscholzia californica | California poppy

I bought these to cover bare ground. The flowers shine out. They are lovely, it will probably take a few years to get out all the seedlings

Most of my Roscoeas are in the ground in the shade of the pear trees.  I prepared a bed for them with a lot of grit and FYM and a bag of peat mixed with the clay . It is on a slope so water tends to drain off.  I am currently potting them ready for moving. I have found some that seem to like it better potted and do well.  The potted ones  did get protection in winter.  Apparently red ghurka does not like freezing in a pot. It seems to be a bit more tender. As they come from the himalayas, generally growing on slopes, cold doesn't bother them so long as they are not sat in wet.  I have started adding a few Cautleya for the rear of them. Crugs introduction called Bleddyns Gold is pretty good.  Hedychium and a ginger I have stay  in pots are get frost protection.
