Roscoea x beesiana. Its not shown up very well but the bottom petals have a faint purple streaking.
R. purpurea Wisley Amethyst taken last week.
I also have R.alpina and scillifolia in flower now. Red Ghurka, Vannin, and cangshaniense flower later on,so there are flowers all the way to October.
If anyone fancies a trip, Roland Bream has the National collection,in Much Wenlock near Shrewsbury. He is open this Sunday.
Sunday 9 July MUCH WENLOCK GARDEN TRAIL11am-5pm A town trail of 8+ hidden gardens, large and small, established and new.Tickets with map available from “Penny Farthing” from 11am, The Square, Much Wenlock and the church (from 1pm).T (available at the church from 1pm, teas & biscuits available at Willow House from 11am) P (for sale at Abbey Nurseries)W (partly) D (some). Church: Holy Trinity Church, Wilmore Street, Much Wenlock. £5.00.
Most of my Roscoeas are in the ground in the shade of the pear trees. I prepared a bed for them with a lot of grit and FYM and a bag of peat mixed with the clay . It is on a slope so water tends to drain off. I am currently potting them ready for moving. I have found some that seem to like it better potted and do well. The potted ones did get protection in winter. Apparently red ghurka does not like freezing in a pot. It seems to be a bit more tender. As they come from the himalayas, generally growing on slopes, cold doesn't bother them so long as they are not sat in wet. I have started adding a few Cautleya for the rear of them. Crugs introduction called Bleddyns Gold is pretty good. Hedychium and a ginger I have stay in pots are get frost protection.

Lovely Roscoeas, Fidget. I've never seen them in France.
Fab pots, BL. I'm sure your Open Garden will be a triumph!
I have serious Roscoea envy, Fidget... though I'm a bit concerned about the winter wet problem. Maybe they're better in the ground?
Lovely pictures BL your pots are magnificent and mark your wall planter in the background is lovely.
Thank you.
Californian Poppy aka Eschscholzia californica | California poppy
I bought these to cover bare ground. The flowers shine out. They are lovely, it will probably take a few years to get out all the seedlings
.
'You must have some bread with it me duck!'
Fab?
Love Mark's pic with the clock...
Thanks for putting the link on for Will's garden Dove, I couldn't view it either. Wish I had a brick wall, looks great with the blues in front.
Lovely flowers everyone!
Busy-Lizzy, I liked your gold grass, do you have the name of it please?
