My hostas are only one inch highimage

Are they beside the aesthetic rock?

I have removed a square metre of alchemilla mollis so will get some planting done in the resulting spaceimage

Our soil is virtually never dry which is good at time, bad at times.

I think, and I might well be wrong ,but I think it's H. Crispula.

Frogs, hedgehogs , thrushes and blackbirds are keeping slugs at bay  so far. A couple of tiny nibbles, but I can live with that.

Hostas , I put gravel around mine image

  • There are certain plants that I avoid putting in the garden , we don't have a huge amount of slugs but the ones that we do have seem to hone in on hostas and a few other choice plants.  Lupins have been devoured in the past too.  Perhaps I will try again and use your gravel suggestion GWRS.

Gravel, grit or the wool pellets you can buy are very effective.

with almost 2,000 hostas, I think I'd be bankrupt if I faffed about with fancy stuff. I'll stick with the wildlife.image

Hosta, send me over some of your aviary please. I'll need them with the amount of slugs I had last year!

Took some pix of the new hot border with it's bright, clashing colours. Ideal for waking me up on a dull day.Lots more to add to it, as there's a good bit of wall to cover too. All we need is some hot dry weather to go with it  image

After thinking my Clianthus was in trouble last year it has pleasantly surprised me with a cracking display of its parrots beak / lobster claw flowers. Will need a decent prune when flowering has finished.
