A bit of hwk and ir*n**g today but it's all prep for our little holiday so it's ok. OH thinks I'm mad doing it - but I do like to come home to a clean house.
If I've time I'll cook up some lime pickle. It's a very small batch using up some fruit from the bowl & to trial Obelixx's recipe. We eat a lot of indian food so an easy pickle recipe will save some pennies.
Russia sounds 'interesting' Lily P. Would love to go to see the architecture but probably when it's warmer!
Need more tea first though...
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
A glorious sunny morning here . Trolley jack has just been dropped off and the new post is waiting to be inserted. Busy day ahead. To think we're not even due back from holiday for another week
Watched all 3 episodes of Taboo last night. Totally hooked.
Good morning. Icy and a little bit foggy here, but have to be at my desk all day so I'll only be looking out at it. Daughter's birthday (11) went well yesterday, just the party outing on Saturday to get through now...
I've always wanted to see St Basil's, LillyP. Glad your trip went well and wasn't *quite* as cold as predicted! Good luck with your tasks today, Hosta - you sound raring to go.
Feeling quite depressed about developments over the pond, especially the agency gagging orders and the 'alternative facts'. Need to take a short break from it all I think, but so much is happening every day that it's difficult.
Best get to work.
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
Good luck with the lime pickle TB. It'll be ready to eat when you get back. We eat a lot of curry too and I could get mango chutney easily enough and even some curry pastes but not lime pickle unless we went in to Brussels for the Chinese supermarket. I made a double batch this last time. I also made some mango chutney a few weeks ago as I haven't found any here. Maybe fix that this pm when we raid the oriental shops in La Roche.
LG - try to see the funny side. It's the only way to get through most things.
More glorious sun today but very chilly. We woke up later than usual at 8am and were sort of thinking of getting up and the next thing we knew it was 10am. Everybody on parade now. Lots to do before we go shopping for "unusual" foodstuffs and a robot this pm. No sign of veggie shortages here? The shelves are full but prices probably a tad higher. Roll on the veggie patch.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

It's lovely here, not even frosty and bright sun, so I'm off out in a few minutes. Need cat food and the cheapest supplies are to be found in Burnley, a free bus ride away; hope it's a double decker cos they give the best views.
BL, that recipe for "healthy" cereal bars is really good, and very quick to make - no baking. However, I suspect they're not so healthy if you eat 2 at a time
It's lucky it isn't really salad weather. Not so long ago we wouldn't have dreamed of looking for salad leaves in the shops in January. Perhaps it might be a bit of a boost to British farmers if we all buy more cabbage, sprouts and root veg...
Yes, Obelixx, roll on the veggie patch!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I haven't seen veg or salad shortages here either. We get mango chutney from the foreign shelves in Leclerc, but that's maybe because Dordogne is a tourist area.
It's frosty and cloudy here.
We are going to get some compost before lunch as David Austin has sent an email to say that the 3 Gertrude Jekyll roses from OH for Christmas are on their way at last. Then we'll have lunch at the Chinese. OH is at choir tonight so I usually make a late lunch instead of evening dinner on Wednesdays.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Welcome back Pdoc Glad you had a fab time. Hosta and hub were evacuated from The Gambia halfway through their holiday, but he's making up for it by shovelling woodchippings and having his hair restyled. He's worried that no one will speak to him as he's had his photo in 'that newspaper! '

What a beautiful building. Russia is on my bucket list, but not near the top yet.
Its freezing fog here this morning.

Hi all.
I am back after very long trip with multiple delays.
Lovely holiday, lots of sun, sand and sea, now feeling very relaxed, hope that lasts.
As usual on holidays, we have done some planning for year ahead, next trip is going to be Japan this autumn, any information would be most welcome.
Am also thinking about starting an OU degree in Astrophysics, need to challenge my brain a bit more.
Hope you are all well, did you get out of the Gambia ok Hosta?
Off to bed, see you all soon.
