  • I've just bottled up the results from the red wine and brandy mix from the recipe you gave me before, thank youimage

I thought I'd try something with the rest of the brandy. I've used the same berries for gin, your brandy mix (I'm going to call it Brandywine) and now with pure brandy...

  • Hi Mother Goose, I can't open your links on my tablet, will try another time on my PC...

How do you have seven plots? Are they council plots?

I walked past my old plot today, the one that had all the junk on it, the flytipper and the thief. I haven't seen the new tenant yet but I will keep an eye out for them out of interest and also as I want to give them the key I had cut for the gate.

Vic , let me known how they taste image

  • I sure will, GWRS. Most of the juice went into the gin as I got a greater volume of liquid than I put in and it flavoured the brandywine. Most I can hope for is colour for the neat brandy I think? That won't be worth saving so I'll drink it straight away. Diluted I think as I don't find the taste too pleasant.?

Some decent looking trees there Mother Goose, like you say. Are these before pictures or are they still to be worked on? Exciting to have a project though I think? Those pears look nice too...

  • That's interesting, I wondered how people get more than one plot (as I suspect I'll rapidly be done with my own) I think my council has a one-plot rule but my next plot neighbour has been given the overgrown end plot on our site to clear up. I wasn't sure if it is because he 'knows people'image Maybe when mine is 'finished', (its theme is organised orchard,) I can ask to help on one of the more raggedy plotsimage

My site has only 9 plots I think. I'm really happy with this site, one of my favourite things about it is people don't steal or meddle about on other people's plots like the scoundrels at my last site...However I would love to have a sort of community aspect with competitions and meetings etc.

I think that is a grand way to commemorate your horseimage

MG , like the shed image

  • Hi re multiple plots- A lot depends on the demand in your area. On our site lots of people have more than one but two is the usual maximum. I myself have  1 + a 1/2. This gives me enough for proper rotation of things like spuds & Brassicas. How ever as recently we have been carying a waiting list of 20+ our current committee (I have retired) is only offering 1/2 plots to start with. This is also partly as we have found that a lot of newcomers can't cope with a full plot a half as a start gives them a chance to prove themselves. If they are any good we promote them as soon as possible.

    AB Still learning

  • The starter half plot is probably a good idea.

At my last plot/first plot my neighbour had sub-let about a third of his as he couldn't manage it all. I only saw them once, it was after their greenhouse had collapsed and I had gathered up all the bits that had blown onto my plot and piled it up. I was sad to see how overwhelming they found it and I wanted to help but it's a full time hobby I think, a lot of commitment.

I went up this morning, light rain at first but then brightened up which I was glad about as I'd taken my plan and a brew with view to doing some musing and measuring.

Narrowed down my raspberry want list, made some thoughtful decisions about what to put where and what space to leave until I had a better idea for it.

Cut down the autumn rasps, straightened and tightened the poultry net I'm using as a support and made a few changes on where to plant cordons.

Watched some nice little birds on the plot, goldfinch, chaffinch and Robin on the feeders and dunnocks and a wren bouncing around the wood and assorted crap pile.

  • Nice day todayimage

Had two apple cordons delivered yesterday, only ordered them last weekend, thought they would take longer.

I wasn't intending on buying any cordons this winter even though I've allocated space but these were on offer. Got Egremont Russet and Little Pax, will be interesting to see how they get on as neither said they were good for the north. But then how north is north??

Made a more sensible cordon list also today. Tried to have a balance between fun, interesting t

    to be continued...

  • Slight boo boo thereimage

...trees and sensible for the north and okay in the wet trees.

It's only a tentative list for now, but probably got 3 or 4 apples on the list, 2 or 3 pears and I'd like something interesting that I'm not familiar with, gage or damson or both.

Next plan of action is to get the greenhouse area (where I've dumped topsoil on top of woodchips) dug over. I was just going to leave the layers but when I was weeding elsewhere today I noticed large amounts of worms where the woodchip is mixed with the soil and that can't be all bad. Will mix it and firm down with view to putting up the greenhouse Spring bank holiday, if suitable.
